The appearance of the Kochs on TV talking with the sin verguenza “host” ranked, to me, up there (or down there) with Booker T. Washington at the turn of the 19th/20th Century having to grift for his people to an audience of some of the most racist people who have ever lived on this Planet.
The difference, in the case of Washington, was that he grifted for his disadvantaged people 30+ years out of slavery and scrapping for whatever foothold they could get.
Scarborough?
That slimeball is just in it for the pat on the head and the $$$$$$$$$$$
Yay, but this would never have happened if the idiots in Jefferson County would have turned out to vote in the original election. I am just amazed that the people refuse to vote. We have mail in ballots in Colorado so you don’t even have to go to the polls. Don’t have a stamp? Then we have multiple drop off locations throughout the area. So I have no compassion for people who don’t bother to vote and then complain.

Well good; I needed some good news after Kentucky and Houston.
Additionally, there was VERY good news in Pennsylvania.
[Pennsylvania made history on Tuesday night when voters elected Democrats for all three state Supreme Court positions that were up for grabs, giving Dems the majority.
The Washington Post called such results “one of the biggest court shake-ups in recent history.”
Among the host of high-profile issues the court will decide on is redistricting. As Phillymag.com points out, the court plays a major role in deciding where district lines are drawn for state House and Senate seats. Those legislators in turn decide on congressional districting.
Republicans control both chambers of the Pennsylvania General Assembly, as well as 13 of the state’s 18 congressional seats, even though the state otherwise leans Democratic. Tuesday night’s results could well change that. Depending on where the lines are drawn, Democrats could take back the majority of U.S. congressional seats in next year’s elections.]
JeffCo is huge. It makes up a tremendous part of Denver metro. And Boulder is its own little world out there. They are northwest of Denver and really they just do their own thing. Sort of like Austin exists in Texas, only the rest of Colorado is not nearly as wacko-coo-coo as Texas can get. But a few eastern counties certainly try.
A Colorado libertarian group, the Independence Institute, contributed $10,000 to Kids Are First JeffCo, a group backing Witt, Williams, and Newkirk.
Yeah, kids are first all right. Because making sure kids are stupid will hasten the realization of the libertarian utopia of total corporate control of society and elimination of taxes for the privileged they represent.
The districts that are drawn by the commission are local, State House and State Senate districts. Congressional districts are still going to be drawn by the Legislature.
Apparently a whole loaf was too much for the R’s who own and operate Columbus: they want to continue to manipulate our Congressional delegation in favor of the Deadender Majority.
JeffCo gets all the headlines, but DougCo is where all the action has been and will be for the near future. If anyone cares about what the Rhee-asswipe voucher crowd is trying to pull off, bone up on DougCo. A little history. In 2009 the “Reformers” won huge victories in this TeaBag friendly county. Sort of a warning shot of the “Don’t Tread on Me” movement that erupted the next year, this new board busted the teachers union, installed a new pay for performance structure and a crapton of standardized testing. Teachers and administrators left in droves. We went from one of the highest achieving school districts to doing not nearly as well as before. Charter schools popped up and a couple years ago they tried to initiate a voucher program that thankfully the ACLU helped to defeat.
These people are WELL funded by whacko-coo-coo-bird right wing organizations to push the extreme right wing vision of “school choice” which is to drive out all liberals and replace all curriculum with right wing approved materials. One of the reasons the JeffCo people got recalled is because they hired a superintendent from DougCo. In other words, the “Reformers” are like kryptonite to reason.
The good guys won because of a real honest to goodness grassroots effort. Parents painted car windows and put up signs. They went door to door and took to facebook and every social media site they could. We got our asses handed to us in 2012, but the same three candidates came back and tried it again and won last night.
This is GREAT news for our kids (I have three in DougCo schools) and I hope it turns the tide against the nutjobs.
Coloradans, myself included, were a bit shocked to see the conservative nuts get into the school system in the first place. In the end, it was a short lived victory for the crazies that really only exposed them to the world for what they are, Batshit crazies, hell-bent on selling our education system to wealthier Batshit crazies and denying reality as a fact.
If Colorado school children can take in the bad as well as the good that has happened in the US, why do adult Democrats feel the need to wipe Andrew Jackson and Thomas Jefferson out of our name fundraisers? Can’t we acknowledge the American past of slaveholding and genocide–which were rather commonplace views at the time–while also honoring the Declaration of Independence and our national birthright of separation of church and state?
The Kochs work diligently in all political contests, no matter how small and local. They are the reasoning behind ALEC, your local far right town council and school board. They won’t let any election pass by without meddling in it.
