Discussion for article #223702
Gee… imagine that: Republicans using bribery to get what they want.
Color me shocked.
Isn’t bribery illegal?
Just to be clear, under recent SCOTUS rulings, bribery pretty much no longer exists. Absent evidence of a direct quid pro quo, politicians are pretty much free to do whatever they want.
Imagine what would have happened it Obama pulled that kind of maneuver to pick up an additional Democrat or two in the Senate.
A daughter is going to get to be a judge through her father’s illegal sketchy deal?
In Chicago we call that “Monday.”
Venality, thy name is GOP.
Correction, Austin Dave, in Springfield, they call that “Monday.” Madigan is a state, not city, legislator.
Was the movie Despicable Me about republicans?
Virginia Legislature to Virginians: we meant you sorry poor f*cks to be uninsured, whatever it takes. Fortunately we found a weak Dem with a needy daughter.
Horrible. Simply horrible. Virginians should march en masse on the capitol and shame these asshats into doing the right thing.
I fail to see the “shock” in this…
Puckett’s resignation, which became official Monday, switched control of the Senate to Republicans, giving them a 20-19 advantage, at least until his successor is elected.
And they will probably still have a majority even after the special election; it’s a heavily Republican district, and special elections don’t normally attract much turnout.
The expansion wouldn’t have been assured even if Puckett had stayed because the House is controlled by anti-expansion Republicans.
Not to mention that the Virginia House Republicans have long tended to be of the Kamikaze variety.
You assume they can be shamed. That’s assuming quite a lot.
"State Sen. Phillip Puckett (D), who resigned his post reportedly for a job as deputy director of the tobacco commission, took himself out of the running on Monday, according to the Washington Post. "
I actually had to click through to read the Post article to clearly understand what this sentence meant. Perhaps “took himself out of the running for that job” would make it more clear?
So the poor suffer and die, so what right?
So the Republiscum don’t even have to risk vague embarrassment by reneging on the bribe. It’s a win-win-win for them. More poorer people, whom they don’t care about in the first place, get to die, which is a DEFINITE win for a state dominated by fundamentalist Christianists, AND their sociopathy gets rewarded AND they get to block an initiative launched by an uppity person and a Democratic governor.
PS. I wonder if they’ll renege on confirming this quisling’s daughter as a judge. They might as well. …
Tis the Ol’ GOP Quid Prod Quo at its finest,
Wait his daughter is admitted to the bar in October 2006, was appointed last July to serve as a judge in Juvenile and Domestic relations Court in an interim capacity. She makes JUDGE in 7 years time? Thats pretty sweet isn’t it? I know alot of law students still working public defender jobs 7 years after making bar.
