WHHAAAAAT? Roger Ailes lied? In other news: The sun is still hot, water is wet and puppies are cute.
The sheer volume of sexual harassment complaints at Fox suggests there has been culture of this behavior impliedly condoned by mgmt and for a long, long time.
When I worked for two Fortune 500 firms in the1970s, a complaint of sexual harassment would almost always lead to dismissal. I saw one productive branch office gutted of managers â those who did the harassment and those who knew about it, but did nothing. They just disappeared one weekend, off on âspecial assignment,â a term that is supposed to give the disappeared ones a fig leaf of dignity.
The debacle was triggered by a husband writing to the president of the company and complaining about his wifeâs boss shagging her.
The result of these draconian punishments was that it kept this shameful behavior to a minimum.
Maybe if Fox gets hit hard enough in the pocketbook, it will force some change. Maybe Roger will pay a price. Right now he thinks heâs untouchable. Maybe the pavement will feel his leather after all.

I know heâs retired and deservedly so, but I would really really really really love to have seen Jon Stewartâs coverage of this on the Daily Show.
I think this is going to end up being like the catholic churchâs child rape and molestation scandal. It started out appearing like an isolated incident in a single parish but truly was happening on a staggering scale in every continent of the world since the beginning of the church. Same thing with Bill Cosby.
I donât think that Roger Ailesâ criminal activities were limited to Gretchen Carlson. She is simply the tip of the iceberg. I am betting that he did this during the period he was advising Nixon, Reagan and other conservative luminaries.
Watching Doocy and Kilmeadeâs behaviors highlighted, I think that the Ailesâ-type incidents may have been pervasive and endemic part of the Foxy News culture. And of course, Bill OâLielly was involved in several sexual molestation incidents that he bought off for several million dollars. I think that Rupert Murdoch had a reputation for picking up some of his wives and baby mommas from among his employees and dated his masseuse.
Yeah, Iâm not convinced that a video like this would help Gretchen Carlsonâs case at all. The problem she is going to have (unless, of course, she can prove a lot of her off camera allegations) is that this video shows exactly the sort of âmale-femaleâ interactions that FOX wants us to believe is appropriate. Itâs free of âpolitical correctnessâ and, look, everyone is having fun, right? Why would Gretchen complain that everyone is telling her sheâs beautiful?
If you think about it, thatâs exactly the deal she signed on to so when she came to FOX, so her complaining about it now is a bit like a boxer filing assault charges because his opponent in the ring punched him in the face.
Gretchen had her âCaptain Renaultâ moment:
âIâm shocked, shocked that sexual harassment and misogyny is part of the FOX News corporate culture.â
I agree, most of the comments shown are pretty tame, I hope Gretchen has done a better job of documenting her allegations then those snippets.
Oh, I suspect Samantha Bee will have a field day with this next Monday. Its totally in her wheelhouse and they have SOOO much material to pull from.

Lewd? The Oxford dictionary (online edition) defines âlewdâ as âCrude and offensive in a sexual way.â Call me old-fashioned or even chauvinistic, but I donât think any of the remarks reported in this story qualify.
Donât get me wrongâIâm sure that Gretchen Carlson was sexually harassed. But this story doesnât prove that.
If this is what they were doing on broadcast, Iâm pretty sure the between times are not fun. Do the cameras keep running?
I actually thought she handled it pretty well. She âjokedâ about HR and told the guys WHYâŚthe problem is when you call them on it with a smile on your face they donât think youâre âseriousâ. When you say it with a frown youâre a âbtch or a man haterâ.
