Until something is done to address Gerrymandering in Utah and elsewhere, this is just so much window dressing. Salt Lake and Summit counties (Utah’s blue counties) are sliced and diced as thinly as possible to all but eliminate the influence of Utah’s most populace counties. Liberals in Utah (and other states) can protest all they want, but Stewart, Chaffetz, Bishop, and Love are some of the safest Republicans in the country.
Me too. It defies reason, to cite just one example, that 90k Detroit voters - i.e., the heart of the base - would vote for every office on the ticket (a Dem GOTVer’s dream come true) but somehow “forget” to vote the top of the ticket.
Or Sauk County, WI - where 3k more voters voted, than live in the county (the Times had a link to it, now it just links to the county itself).
You really need to work on your reading comprehension skills, bro. Cause you’re finding all kinds of things that just ain’t there.
And don’t you assume you know where I live nor how hard I campaigned for Clinton in the general. Because you’re wrong on both counts.
But none of that changes the fact she ran a sucky campaign and gave us a fascist president.
That 3k number has been popping up ever since the election. Trump uses it as his “illegal voters” number; Palast has estimated that that was the number of votes that were illegally cast or never cast at all though legally registered as votes.
I’d sure like to know - because yesterday I saw a story in which intelligence people were saying that the most important thing from here out was making sure someone didn’t hack the evoting machines next time which tells me they know it’s doable because it’s not only doable, it’s easy. And it’s easy to do it in such a way that you don’t leave a trail.
Nothing about this past election was right, starting with the vicious disinformation campaign the Bernie Bros ran online.
Spouting that line aren’t you? What the candidate you like does or doesn’t do by itself is clearly the sole cause if a loss, what the candidate you supported did or didn’t do clearly could have had no deleterious role in the loss and had no possible impact of his supporters and the defection of a portion of said supporters had no possible role in the loss.
Main reason Clinton lost? In my view the biggest single cause turns out to be unregulated and undisclosed contributions by Putin.
You poor, poor tiny Wisconsinites; she didn’t visit you personally so therefore you couldn’t possibly vote for a decent candidate. I live in California, the most over run political state next to New York. I have never seen nor heard any them that came through. I READ everything I can about every candidate from my local supervisor to the ones going to Sacramento or Washington. It is not necessary to get a personal pat on the head like a child to make an informed decision about any of them.
These aren’t the people who elected him. I’m pretty sure the people that elected him would disagree with this crowd.
“Stewart started the event at a high school in Salt Lake City by acknowledging that most of those in the crowd didn’t vote for him, but he said he thinks it’s still important to hear them — one of the few comments he made that received applause.”
Yeah, that counts as an unforced error I think. That, and just not having a natural talent for politics. Everything else I’ve seen is would coulda shoulda
I really think people should take the time, seriously take the time and listen to the Senate Intel hearings. Avoid grabbing the sound bites and take it all in. I have spent the last two days treading through them. Before we shoot at each other Repub or Dem, Clinton or Sanders and so on, get the appreciation how much we have been deliberately manipulated.
Trump and his clowns are a result and a distraction, the bigger picture is getting ignored. During the hearings, a reference to virtual reality was made, not in the sense of an electronic landscape, but what we perceive as real information is being crafted to a different reality. This is not an overnight process, it has been being built up and fine tuned for several years now.
I do listen = really listen.
I know what’s been happening. I see very clearly because Bernie didn’t appear in a vacuum - this populist bullshit is ruining Europe right now too.
Bernie is part of the problem.
They’ve already done two very important things, which the Trump/Fox/Spicer noise machine have done their best to drown out:
They got testimony that Trump is such a useful idiot for Putin because he will automatically pass along any disinformation he likes.
And they instantly shot down the Flynn immunity proposal to prevent the House committee or Trump’s DOJ from jumping in and taking a deal that could have derailed any real investigation.
They look like our best chance right now to keep it real. Hope they can follow through!
Video of the protestors.
Love has consistently underperformed her district. There is an opportunity there for the right Democrat, I believe.
No, the voters gave us a fascist president – the voters that showed up and voted third-party out of spite, the voters that didn’t show up and ceded the election to the kooks, and the voters who believe Russian lies.
Obama campaigned in Wisconsin seven times in 2008, per CNN.
That would indeed be great. She’s awful.
Tena,
My remarks were not directed at you but it tweaked what was running through my mind over the last few days. My impression, which really is one I have held for a long time is we have to have a culture change. In many respects all of our sins and vanities have been worked against us. Again, rage at the the people who fall for the crap, do not engage critical thinking and let some of the most disgusting of people talk for us, but also push for educating and creating awareness on a more global level. When we watch the Tumps, Bannons, Flynns and so forth going through this process, don’t let up on remembering what works above them.
Add Steve King to that list. Whitest district in the whitest state. On the other hand Nancy Pelosi has an equally safe seat.
@tena Maddow (again) had an enlightening few minutes the other night on this subject, that is, disinformation working against Bernie bros as well as Russian manipulation of the half assed so called Calexit movement. It makes me realize too few us are learning about this stuff.
Has nothing to with feelings, it’s all about the electoral college - which I’ve long advocated scrapping.
And FTR I don’t live or hail from Wisconsin - I’ve just worked in enough campaigns there to know it’s almost always a dogfight, unless you’re a superstar (I.e. Obama).
PS. Thank you California, for leading the country in opposition to this inept, would-be tyrant.
I used to play the original cast album of Fidler to my kids–that was one of their favorite lines.
