Schumer and Pelosi are definitely Part Of The Problem.

I see it as a 5-fer:

  1. He shows heā€™s a more decisive pres than Obama (in his view).
  2. We know he watches a lot of tv. The emotion in his voice at the Rose Garden speech suggests the pictures of gassed children got to him.
  3. April 6 was the 100th anniversary of the US military into WWI.
  4. He does it when heā€™s hosting Chinaā€™s premier, whom he wants to do more to quell North Koreaā€™s nuclear capability.
  5. And of course, as loss_mentality said,

Expressing a verbal opinion is not the same as hacking computers, etc. Not even close. And Hillaryā€™s ā€œincompetenceā€ has been greatly overblown. She nearly won the nomination when she ran against Obama. Overcoming rampant gerrymandering, interference by the Russians, and Comeyā€™s last minute stunt with the emails was too much. The whole email thing was ridiculous. The press did NOT do its job vetting Trump. There was a great deal of negative info about him that never made the news while the NYTimes was maundering on about the ā€œclouds and shadowsā€ hovering over Clinton. So donā€™t give me the tired old ā€œIncompetent campaignā€ crap.

But actions too often have unintended consequences. And they are to be feared.

Havenā€™t checked a map but Iā€™m pretty sure both Alaska and Hawaii are closer than anywhere in California

First I donā€™t see anyone arguing that he is a Russian puppet. He may or may not be but he has been dealing with the Russian mafia for years. Second, even talking about his decisions as if they are based on rationality is ridiculous. He was apparently given 3 scenarios to follow vis a vis the Syrians. I havenā€™t read what the other two were but all three were probably military attacks. However, I will be interested to learn what the alternatives were. He is not a serious person. He is a raging narcissist and that is what guides his decisions. That does not reassure me.

Estimated cost ($) for this little show of force.
59 Tomahawk Cruise Missiles at about $1.6 million each is about $96 million.

Meals on Wheels is too expensive to maintain thoughā€¦

Donald Trump:

ā€œIā€™ll look Syrian children in the face and say they canā€™t come.ā€

I wrote this yesterday afternoon while the tomahawks were still in their silos:
That we have even had a suspicion that we cannot trust the elected US government to protect us lies entirely at the feet of Trump himself, those feet in his mouth each time he spoke about how noble Putin is, how friendly the two of them have been. But now we have the publicly silent McMasters taking firm control. And we have Haley at the U.N., State, and leading generals taking a hard line publicly against Russia and Putin. A sea change if it persists. If it does and If Putin has the goods on Trump, we will soon see golden and embarrassing disclosures begin to trickle out. That Trump would permit this by authorizing a new Russia policy suggests that he thinks he can weather any storm over links to Russia. If he believes that he will soon release his taxes as well to cut adrift any who might wish to harm him, but he thinks now cannot do so. Remember his claim he could get away with shooting someone in broad daylight in downtown Manhattan? Trump has shown us he will never be capable of promoting and helping produce an inclusive, creative, complex peacetime America (he would build walls rather than bridges and roads), but he might be able to prepare us for a simplifying all out war.

Weā€™ll see soon enough what the missiles launched last night against Assad and the Russians lead to. I do think the use of saran demands a strong response. It will be interesting and important to see what Russia does now. Will Russia join us against Assad and our common enemy in ISIL?
I do think it unacceptable for the US, South Korea, and Japan to be cowering before the possibility of a nuclear weapon launched from North Korea. A preemptive strike seems the only admittedly awful solution. It will be interesting and important to see what China does now. Will it join us against North Korea before the world is consumed by nuclear fire?
We are much closer to a tipping point tonight. More big power political games or an awakening that we must truly work together?
It is odd and incredibly dangerous that we have Trump in power at this time. Based on facts at hand, I personally believe that he is up to his orange plugs with Russia. The CIA concerns published tonight in the NYT support my thinking. He at least was/is certainly an opportunist and likely a tool, possibly even more. He is certainly consumed by his own self-interest and glorification. The last could lead him to try to save himself in any number of ways, including bluster and even outright war. That is what I was pondering in the first big paragraph above. But he may also be merely incredibly ignorant, narcissistic, and impulsive. Fortunately, the generals now leading our armed services seem a solid bunch who know how to speak truth to power. They know the terrible cost of battle and the benefits of hard-nosed diplomacy. They may be the only bulwark between us and mutual annihilation.
Hang on to your hat. Quite a ride ahead.

Yeah, yeah, the Trumpbots donā€™t care. Their God contains multitudes, including (or especially) contradictions. Consistency and honesty are only required of Democrats.

+1 for the Swiss dude in the profile pic.

We donā€™t need any popcorn for this ride.

Thereā€™s civil war in comment sections of wingnut news sites right now.

Yes, we and many other governments interfere with elections but this interference was apparently with the assistance of the Trump campaign which was a new level of interference. An effort is being made to hang them up by their skins but it isnā€™t easy with the Rā€™s controlling all branches of the government.

I wasnā€™t referring to Russian prostitutes. I was referring to his dealings with Russian mafia billionaires laundering money via buying Trump properties. And his owing billions to a Russian bank is another area where he can be negatively influenced by the Russians. Old Donnie has been dealing with the Russian underworld for years but none of this came out during the campaign because our esteemed press was so busy pointing out all the clouds and shadows hanging over Hillary.

Narcissists only have compassion for themselves.

How do we send missiles to destroy a third-rate airbase and NOT actually destroy the runways?

Hmmm.

Would those be the runways used by Russians who were warned about the attacks?

ps. Putin doesnā€™t give a shit about Assad. Putin only cares about Putin.
