Discussion: University Of Texas Removes 4 Confederate Statues Overnight

Good.

But not surprising, 'cause Austin.

Great quote from Admin at UT-Austin: “We do not choose our history, but we choose what we honor and celebrate on our campus,”

Well and properly done.

Good. And the kicker provides a model for all such removals: stick 'em in the history department.

History department might not be a good idea. A Bad Element might start hanging around the place. To say nothing of the insects.

There were only 3 confederate traitor statues removed. The 4th statue was of Governor Hogg. The Hogg statue was there with the group. Hogg had nothing to do with the confederacy, other than being the son of a confederate general.

Considering the statement the Hogg Foundation put out, doubt they mind the statue of James Hogg being relocated away from the three traitors.

Kind of OT but I hadn’t seen this one:

This is the way to do it when possible. Just remove them. Don’t announce it. Don’t ask for permission. Just do it.

There is something faith restoring about all this. My faith in humanity might have a glimmer of hope. It seems Ms. Heyer’s televised death is serving as a conduit to waking people up. It’s slowly being realized that Trump is a cancer in areas slow on the uptake. I saw a poll this weekend that his popularity is down in PA, OH and WI…the 3 states that essentially handed him the white house.

Sad commentary that people are uniting in spite of the office of the presidency. But, that’s where we are in this point in time.

I’m on board for anything that gets rid of this plague called Trumpism.

Actually it is. The University of Texas is part of the state, and those statues have been a bone of contention for several years now.

I’m surprised they did it like this, but please, since I’m an alumn.

They moved James Hogg statue? They should replace it with one of his daughter Ima Hogg, a truly remarkable woman,

Yeah, my husband’s best friend has an endowed chair there and is really, really happy to see this.

Yeah. I saw it a couple of days ago – the only thing they got wrong was the hair color. Shoulda been candyfloss yellow.

Just bet that azzhole Governor of TX or the State Legislators will step in and pass a quickie law that the statues must be put back.

Instead, they should have sledgehammer ceremony to smash those Confederate symbols and dare the Republicsums to do anything about it!

All that was needed to remove the monuments to slavers and traitors was for Trump to speak in favor of them. So toxic he has became that nobody will want him to champion their cause, republicans in congress are already having second thoughts about, wait for this, tax cuts and infrastructure spending, They are afraid that because of Trump it may blow on their faces. And they are right.

Next time Trump talks about building a wall in the border, people will start digging a moat.

Yes. It’s time to get back to celebrating our heritage.

You know, the American one.

While praising this decision, I’m still reminded that students at UT Austin (and other public universities) are still allowed to carry guns to class. I can’t imagine any professor being comfortable with that when he/she opens the discussion with a controversial question.
