Discussion: UK Retailer Allegedly Sells Bloody Bullet-Riddled American Halloween Costumes

Discussion for article #228975

If only blood soaked clothing was left for Halloween. Unfortunately it’s kind of fitting for all-season-wear in America.

I guess that is their perception of America.

The costumes seem to reference the recent spate of police shootings in America that have made international news and raised comparisons between police protocol and gun policy in the U.S. and United Kingdom.

Really? We’re awash in an epidemic of gun violence and these costumes seem to reference police shootings specifically? I’m pretty sure they’re referencing our nation’s gun fetishism in general.

I studied abroad in England. My roommate asked me if someone was murdered if it made the front page. I told her in my home town just on average someone was murdered everyday, and that it would be rare for it to make the front page. She never asked me about “footballers” however.

Walmart owns Asda.

So?

If it wasn’t for the cheerleader one, I would have thought the football costume was just a reference to the violent nature of American football (though granted, there’s more actual blood spilled in soccer). It doesn’t really look “bullet-riddled”.

I dunno…I’m not offended, and I can’t help but think that this is a perfect indicator of what American culture is like right now.

It’s just information. Make of it what you will.

“The costumes seem to reference the recent spate of police shootings in America that have made international news and raised comparisons between police protocol and gun policy in the U.S. and United Kingdom.”

No, they really don’t. You’ve gotta be wearing x-ray goggles to read that deeply into it. I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count the number of horror movies I’ve seen that include bloody dismembered cheerleaders. Slightly fewer involved the “jocks” getting their comeuppance as well. If anything, it might be a vague reference to Amerikkka’s orgy of gun lust in general, but meh. Anyone offended by his is just looking for something to be offended by.

That’s OK 'cuz my drooling, pooping, lost in the garden Queen costume should unstiffen some upper lips…

There is a lot of scary movies about football and cheerleaders meeting death at the hands of evil monsters. On the fence about this one

Am I missing something? I went to the source page and I don’t see any “bullet-riddling”. There’s a ripped open leg, exposed bone and blood spatter, but no bullet holes I can see.

Didn’t OJ Simpson wear 32 for the Bills and sure looks like their uniform.

This is nuts. What’s next? No zombie costumes? Zombie cheerleaders have been popular Halloween costumes for at least a decade.

When I was a young lad back in the late 60’s early 70’s no one in their right mind would dress up for Halloween as say a Manson family member, Lt. Calley or the Napalm girl. Even with all of the craziness of that era maybe there was more of a sense of propriety.

It’s funny because it’s true.
