Discussion: Trump's Unfavorables Spike: 7 Of 10 Americans Now View Him Unfavorably

But keep endorsing your nominee, Goopers. You have all tied an anchor around your legs and you are all going down to swim with the fishes.

This new info gives me great hope for this country - that even the majorities of Donald’s supposedly key constituencies also see how dangerous and atrocious this person is at his core.

Well done, America! Think twice before voting for “the nominee” just because he’s heading the ticket for your political party.

And Hillary’s unfavorables could change with exposure to her. A lot of people who lazily assume there has to be some truth to all the “I just don’t trust her” talk might hear a speech and say “Actually, that makes a lot of sense.” She’s better able these days to project her serious, steady, tough-minded nature, and it seems to be cutting through. I don’t think increased exposure to Trump will have that effect on the average person.

Yeah, but how does “The Republican nominee” poll?
That’s the guy who’s running, according to the RNC.

But why did Trump rise to prominence in the first place? Well, there’s a Harvard study about this.

Journalists seemed unmindful that they and not the electorate were Trump’s first audience. Trump exploited their lust for riveting stories. He didn’t have any other option. He had no constituency base and no claim to presidential credentials. If Trump had possessed them, his strategy could have been political suicide, which is what the press predicted as they showcased his tirades. Trump couldn’t compete with the likes of Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, or Jeb Bush on the basis of his political standing or following. The politics of outrage was his edge, and the press became his dependable if unwitting ally.

It still requires a yooooge amount of searching to find any mention of Trump on the RNC website - one blog entry in June and two press releases in May. The rest of the site seems to be dedicated to a mix of stale Clinton-bashing and stock photos of people, many of whom wouldn’t vote Republican on a dare.

They must be so proud.

Heh. Good luck with that, RNC. Here’s Ken Shabby, impressing Rosalind’s father with his extraordinary personal magnetism, and yet you have to wonder if it won’t wear thin with time:

Also from the Harvard Shorenstein Study

The Democratic race in 2015 received less than half the coverage of the Republican race. Bernie Sanders’ campaign was largely ignored in the early months but, as it began to get coverage, it was overwhelmingly positive in tone. Sanders’ coverage in 2015 was the most favorable of any of the top candidates, Republican or Democratic. For her part, Hillary Clinton had by far the most negative coverage of any candidate. In 11 of the 12 months, her “bad news” outpaced her “good news,” usually by a wide margin, contributing to the increase in her unfavorable poll ratings in 2015.

Our MSM is no longer an arbiter, but has become a major force in manipulating voter preferences and, freedom of the press notwithstanding, is becoming a threat to democracy,

These are encouraging numbers, to be sure. But when/why did the GOTP leadership strap on their suicide vests to let this maniac take down the election and their party? It’s not too late to buy him out (maybe his strategy all along…) draft another name for the ticket (whether they consent or not…) change the rules to disqualify him… I mean, do SOMETHING. Instead, they’re lying there playing dead, hoping the assassin moves on and takes out the other candidate next to them. What more graphic demonstration do we need to prove these people are incapable of protecting us from any enemy, foreign or domestic?

I’m once again a bit worried that the collapse is so fast and catastrophic that, faced with the prospect of humiliation–the one thing he dreads most-- he’ll start listening to people who know what they’re talking about.

Well, how’s the DNC doing with Hilary? I saw a section dedicated to Trump but no Hills.

Probably waiting for Sanders to concede. Trying to keep the kids happy.

In other words, 30%, the very core base 30%… and “she hasn’t even started on him yet — although last week she did a little bit.”

That’s true. I remember how rational he appeared after losing Iowa. Almost sane like.

If the DNC featured Clinton on its website, the Sanders supporters would go ballistic. Until Sanders concedes, or until the convention nominates Clinton, the DNC can’t realistically do much. Trotting out both Clinton and Sanders on the official site would be equally messy.

When polls are done, do they ever ask questions that can lead to a root cause analysis of the high unfavorables? If so, I imagine they sell it to the candidates, but I so tired of the horse-race stuff. (edit spelling)

This poll is great news - for Mitt Romney!!

Yeah, well, wherever he was yesterday, he sounded like the drunk uncle who grabs the microphone during the Best Man’s toast.
