I support our local Boy Scout chapter every year and make a donation every year. Too many Boys donāt have any other opportunities that the Boy Scouts present and too many boys donāt ahve any other role models to look up to other than their peers in Boy Scouts and the Scout Leaders. (I know the BSA has had their problems)
I just called the local office to express my disgust at the Presidentās remarks to the Jamboree crowd.
I also told them my funding dollars to the BSA were in jeopardy if the BSA National did not put out a press release condemning the Presidentās remarks and following up with a statement that the President does not represent the model of a Boy Scout.

I asked the person on the other end of the line to find one part of the Scout Law that the President represents.
I was told that only one other person had called to complain. This is it people. Time to call your local Boy Scout office and lodge a complaint.

It is long past time for Americans who cherish our history and way of life to stand up against the path that our whack-job āpresidentā and his shills are leading us down. Ever since Drumpf entered the presidential race it has been all too apparent the he has been following a path laid out in Mein Kampf. Tragically for the German people, that path led them and the world to catastrophe. For the sake of our country and the world,let us not make the same mistake.
The only objection to the BSA organization and Trump speech i saw in that article was by Sen. Chris Murphy. Is there any evidence that, at the venue during the speech, parents and scouts were disgusted by the speech? The article says the crowd cheered, and based on anecdotal evidence provided by @charismatic above (thanks for making that call, by the way!), there does NOT seem to be widespread outrage among scouts, scout families, and scout supporters. This is indeed a sad way to inspire young boys, some who come from fatherless homes and look to the scouts for role models and leadership skills. That Trump was cheered in such a forum is indeed sad!
Actually there are reports of a growing number of phone calls, tweets, other social media expressions, and commentaries expressing outrage over the Drumpf speech. Keep it up! This outrage must not be allowed to wither.

I had to look it up and now Iām officially creeped out. How did the adults in charge of this event let this go on? How did the Scoutmasters in the crowd allow their charges to be manipulated in such a way as to totally dishonor their oath? The Scouts are sullied and defiled. This was a sad day in America.
It depends a lot on the troop. I felt the same way, but my husband is an eagle scout so I did not have the last word on this. At any rate, our troop goes camping at least once a month, and my son has earned merit badges in kayaking, canoeing, and a variety of other hands on, outdoor activities. We do public service projects like collecting food for the homeless and cleaning up local parks. We even have relative diversity among members of the troop. Thatās what depresses me the most, that this bit of political theater will discourage kids from an outlet that really can be a safe haven that gives skills that are harder and harder to develop. Here, in the nationās capital, people are ultra careful not to speak about politics because it would be so easy for everything to devolve into a political contest.

Yes. And it doesnāt hint at what seemed most disturbing in the brief excerpts I heard. In addition to the partisanship and fascism mentioned here, it was the most bonkers Iāve ever heard Trump. He seemed to be quite mad, in the classic sense. He bragged at some length about his election triumph, despite all the naysayers. Won Michigan and Pennsylvania, you know, to the asonishment of so many. It is obvious that this really is all in the present tense for him, and it seemed urgent that the Boy Scouts be aware of it. Until now, I havenāt been clear whether he is deteriorating or I was simply perceiving it so. He is deteriorating.

Indeed it does. The BSA is far from perfect. But with good local leadership and accountability, it can be a great experience for some types of boys.

If Rick Perry really made it to Eagle Scout, that tells you all you need to know about the organization. My son quit when he was a Webelo. That was when the controversy of the Scouts banning gay members and gay troop leaders was stirring. He never cared that much about what Scouting represented and that very much decided it for him.
