Discussion: Trump's Fiery Speech To Boy Scouts Inspires Parental Outrage

The Boy Scouts of America said after the speech that it does not promote any one political candidate or philosophy.

***I think homophobia could be loosely defined as a philosophy.***

Also, atheists are not allowed…

Christianity is certainly a philosophy they are proud to promote.

Here’s a link to the transcript. I didn’t make it all the way through. I just ate my lunch and I wanted to keep it down.

as an Eagle Scout who attended the 1964 BSA Jamboree where President Johnson’s speech, in an election year did not mention anything partisan or political I have communicated with the National leadership of the BSA demanding that the strip Donald Trump of his title of Honorary Chairman of the BSA.

The speech clearly illustrated that Little Donnie Trump has no concept of the values and principles of the BSA.

I was a Scout as a kid. Now that I have a boy of my own I feel extremely reluctant to get my own kid involved.

Thanks. At my age, I have little stomach for that many sentence fragments. Here’s a link to Chris Cillizza’s condensed version…

Unfortunately they seemed to answer in kind.

Trump’s speech was so inappropriate, it was stomach-churning wrong! The personal boasting, the taunts and insults against his political opponents were only superseded by his crude anecdotes about wild yacht parties.
It was very chilling, however,to have heard the crowd roar in approval, laughter and applause at Trump’s words – as the audience were the youth of America and their current leaders. The BSA has its issues, which should be reviewed and revised, and applauding this fool and his completely unbefitting and unseemly words adds to the urgency with which the BSA must review their mission, their principles and their direction of young boys.

He’s utterly nuts. Only someone as crazy as a chameleon on a kilt would give a speech like that to a bunch of Boy Scouts.

As usual, he didn’t know where he was, who he was talking to about what. He just rants about his obsessions. It was surreal watching tape of that ā€œspeech.ā€

The only thing lacking was a couple of ball bearings.

Just curious, did he lead the boys in chants of ā€œlock her upā€?

Thank you.

Remember that the BSA is also the folks who had its lawyers argue that hating gay people was a core part of its charter. They’ve stepped back from that a little bit, but it’s not as if they’re all that. So if this is a step too far for the BSA then wow.

(Iirc when I was a kid you couldn’t get the merit badges required for eagle scout without professing a deist religion of some kind. Also the days when they had a special deal with the mormons forbidding black scouts from becoming patrol leaders…)

Yes but that’s all really beside the point.

You don’t have to approve of the organization in order to find that speech nuts and obviously a bunch of the parents feel that way too.

It’s more that if this is going too far for BSA parents, it’s like losing Rush Limbaugh.

Thanks for the link to the summary, was about all I could take.

What.a.punk. Which is what I end up saying anytime I see, hear, or read anything peepee has to say…What.a.punk.

Completely inappropriate. I was a scout myself for many years and have fond memories, but after seeing what they apparently have become I regret it all. I will never have anything nice, or even neutral, to say about that organization ever again.

And I will be making damn sure that no grandson of mine has anything to do with them.

Lawrence O’Donnell had a clip of Rush Limbaugh on his show last night where Limbaugh was criticizing Dolt 45 for his lack of knowledge on healthcare.

Dude can’t even make a speech to the Boy Scouts without dropping a huge Drumpf in the middle of the stage.

Yeah just when I’m as sure as I can be that I’m beyond being shocked by him, I was shocked.
