I thank Rashida Tlaib for successfully changing the conversation in the media back to impeachment and Trump’s legal exposure. She got under Trump’s skin and he’s responding with twitter post after twitter post. Trump did the shutdown and the abrupt withdrawal from Syria to distract from the news headlines of December regarding his legal troubles and the risk of impeachment. Now, Tlaib may have actually helped hasten the end of the shutdown b/c its value to Trump as a distraction is diminishing while the costs of the shutdown keep piling up.
That’s far better politics than the hapless Elizabeth Warren being unable to answer a simple question from Rachel Maddow as to how Trump presents a unique danger to the Republic, and essentially endorsing Trump’s move in Syria (minus the tweets of course!) with nary a criticism of the kowtowing to Putin, his personally compromised position, the threat to our Kurdish and Israeli allies, the negative impact on our campaign against ISIS and the damage to America’s standing in the world.
His tweets are starting to sound like lyrics in a bad, theme park musical review.

There are elements of bleating and pleading in this tweet that I find strangely satisfying to read.

IF this is true, which I doubt, it’d be 93% of a very small percentage of the overall US population. This is always been his MO: he’s the undisputed leader of feral trumpers, but that’s all he needs. The remainder of the country just doesn’t really exist to him. The fact that the number of people who will openly identify with being “Republican” is shrinking doesn’t mean a damn thing to him. It’s the Party of Rump now.
