Discussion: Trump Walks Back Torture Stance: I Know Is U.S. Bound By International Laws

He’s lying. He saw Bush get away with it and would try to do the same thing. The only question now is, with the spotlight on them in this area, would the military obey? 'Course he could always bring back Allen West …

Obama is every bit the terrorist and torturer that are dubya and dick. Obama’s boys still operate black hole torture cells worldwide, as starters … same as dubya’s … If anyone believes otherwise, you aren’t staying in touch with reality or the honest news (all the honest news that’s fit to hide).

If you turn your head in various directions do you ‘hear different news stations’?

A favorite Trump technique is to take credit for both sides of an issue.

Screw the walk back. Just keep rolling the tape and let him explain that he doesn’t mean what he says, no matter how confidently he says it.

BAIER: …experts have said that when you asked the U.S. military to carry out some of your campaign promises, specifically targeting terrorists’ families, and also the use of interrogation methods more extreme than waterboarding, the military will refuse because they’ve been trained to turn down and refuse illegal orders.

So what would you do, as commander-in-chief, if the U.S. military refused to carry out those orders?

TRUMP: They won’t refuse. They’re not going to refuse me. Believe me.

Play it over and over until November. Every now and then, add Trump’s statement in reference to his time in a military-type prep school: “I felt that I was in the military in the true sense because I dealt with those people,”

So where were all of the headlines screaming, “Trump’s management style will force Officers to commit war crimes by the sure power of his mgmt ability”

Your Nazi Post should be included in any historical assessment of the post Reagan Republican Party. The amazing things to me are those everyday 2016 sightings which are unique and which disguise much of what the Republicans generally (and Trump specifically) are doing.

(a) People of colour deeply involved (as salaried participants in a blase emotional posture) in a blatantly racist organization

(b) The intersection of entertainment and “politics” Think of Heinrich Himmler playing Hollywood Squares in Germany, with Jewish panelists

© Fascist people as guests on reality TV shows and comedy shows, like Herr Trump

(d) Near zero panic setting in at the reality of the idea of Trump being within a few million misguided souls of the United States Presidency

(e) A Fourth Estate whose senior people KNOW how destructive Trump is to the people of the United States, the political institutions of the United States and the world and which persists in both downplaying his danger and highlighting his entertainment value

(f) The complete disinterest of those most likely to be grievously harmed by Trump

Randy Newman:

They got little hands
And little eyes
And they walk around
Tellin’ great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet

I think Donald understands that many of his followers don’t, can’t or won’t read. He bellows his nonsense feeling reasonably certain they won’t ever read his walk-backs. They take what they hear from Donald, Fox and talk radio as gospel.

…and I think having to listen to him every day as President Trump for 4-8 years would be the “worse than water boarding” torture he was speaking about.

And they will turn on him like they have the GOP. Republican voters gravitate to anyone throwing bloody meat their way then are “disappointed” when they don’t get PBO head on a platter as they were promised. Fools believing lies told to them by craven grifters. They never learn. It would be sad if it weren’t so disgusting.

Then as now, we see that the journalistic “cult of savvy,” the pathological need not to be seen by their peers as having been credulous and the oh-so-knowing cynicism that causes them to routinely dismiss the things politicians say as “rhetoric for the masses” rather than plain statements of intent and belief has the ironic effect of rendering them helplessly naive waifs when confronted with genuine violent radicalism.

Even in the 30’s, there was no real appreciation among most journalists for the true depth of the sickness taking hold of Germany. It was only the ones who had been posted there for many years who got it, and, between Nazi censorship and the profound desire of the rest of the world not to believe it, even they had great difficulty in conveying the truth. Really, even up until the Allies started stumbling across the concentration camps, there was a tendency to class the Nazis as being not all that much worse than, say, Mussolini.

He’s had to take back at least three things since last night’s debate. His staff must be getting concerned that his remarks ending up a consecutive roll of his biggest mistakes and plunders. Trump is coming across not only stupid and crude but also like a unrepentant criminal.

Works for me. Keep the wild claims and retractions coming. Just makes him more unelectable.

At least W stayed away from the cameras riding his mountain bike unless he had to face the music after making another horrendous mistake. Our Fearless Leader Trump would be making bombastic pronouncements three times a day everyday. Might as well ask Kim Jong-un to take residence in the White House.

I’m sorry but I don’t trust anything you say Donald.
I think you follow the reasoning of Richard Nixon who thought that because he was President anything he did or ordered had to be legal.

Quote fro trump “I’ve never had any problem being a leader. If I say ‘do it’ they’re gonna do it.” this is with reference to waterboarding. Apparently trump does not understand several things. First military members can and are supposed to refuse illegal orders. Second …if trump approached Congress that way they’d laugh him out of the White House.
