Discussion: Trump Walks Back Torture Stance: I Know Is U.S. Bound By International Laws

Discussion for article #246908

Trump addressed these concerns in his statement to the Post, writing, “As president I will be bound by laws just like all Americans and I will meet those responsibilities.”

His supporters are going to be so disappointed when they're confronted with the reality Trump won't take office as the Supreme Ruler.
"Trump walks back...." and "Trump does an about face...." will become frequent preambles to articles about his positions on various issues.

Conservatives: We knew he was a fake. Even the failure Dubya chose to disobey laws to keep the country safe. What a chicken.
Rubio: Vote for me, I will torture our enemies or perceived enemies.
Cruz: I am the most eligible to be POTUS. I will torture Americans and Foreigners alike. It will keep us safe.

Trump: " We should go for waterboarding and tougher than waterboarding."

To paraphrase Lincoln’s famous comment on slavery:

“Whenever I hear anyone arguing for torture, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally.”

Yet before Drumpf flip-flopped on his own plan to order our military to commit war crimes, which the GOP ate up with a spoon and literally cheered, Jim “Fucking Scumbag” Webb jumped on board.

In the military when you take Law of War training (which is mandatory), pretty much every time from Day 1 they tell you “following orders is not a defense” and use Nuremberg as an example. I didn’t really expect I’d ever see a real-life modern example, though, honestly.

I wonder if trump’s hair would swirl the other direction in Australia…?

Trump may be bound but will his big fat mouth?

If he gets all wound up in front of a rabid crowd he’ll backtrack on his backtracking. Killing women and children and putting people on the rack will make a comeback.

I wonder who in his team got him to approve this statement. Normally it would be a party leader/insider to pull a guy back from the abyss, but clearly that channel doesn’t exactly exist with Trump.

So what if yesterday he was for ordering the military to commit war crimes? Today he definitely is not down with that. This is what is known as “flexibility.”

He does have small hands.

I think a series of 30 second spots with that refrain on a continuous loop might be enough to send Trump to a rubber room.

Welp he’s just lost 10 points among the he-men tough guys of the GOP.

The reason the GOP is having such a tough time figuring out what to do about Drumph is that he sings the same tune THEY do. He just does it OUT of the shower.

Besides, Dubya and Darth Cheney would tell you that they didn’t violate the law either, and they’d point at their little puppet Yoo’s memos as proof.
