Discussion: Trump To Sign Executive Order To Move Voter Fraud Investigation Forward

Then we will have a huge constitutional crisis because California’s governor is going to fight to keep them from doing that.

I don’t think this is about CA and NY. I think it is about OH, PA, WN, NC and a few other states where a relative handful of votes can make a difference. You can never disenfranchise enough in CA or NY to make a difference and he needs compliant Legislatures to do his dirty work for him. God help the good people of NC.

Good. This is a huge overreach and the Democrats better get their head out of their asses and take a stand on this. It’s a fraudulent, authoritarian order that is designed to destroy our democracy by delegitimizing, and potentially discounting any vote that Trump doesn’t like. There had better be some action. Meetings with the few Republicans interested in saving the democracy have to be happening in the next 48 hours to agree on a joint rejection of this executive order or we are officially fucked. The Democratic Party’s response has been desperately disappointing. They’ve had two months to prepare for this kleptocratic madman, and they are still squabbling about who the fuck is going to be the DNC leader. We need immediate, concerted, serious, radical response that bears some relation to the reality. I’ve just taken an unsolicited call from the Democratic congressional fundraising arm asking for cash to train new congressional candidates around the country. I told this unfortunate goodhearted caller that Ds are not getting a single penny from me until I see the current officeholders do something substantive and meaningful that isn’t driven by idiotic, myopic micro-calculations about their perceived self-interest or whatever else it is that is motivating them to sit on their hands and not even get their faces in front of goddamn TV camera to announce that we face a democratic emergency and here is what they will do about that. What the fuck is the point of electing these cowards and know-nothings if they refuse to do a single fucking thing about this situation. If Trump doesn’t put their feet to the fire, I will.

You know, that’s a really fantastic point.

…where’s Putin standing as Trump’s grovelling?
I bet everyone saw the same mental image there…

oh, wait…

Can a codger add Nixon and Reagan to your list?
This feels more like the 70’s than the 21st century sometimes… more all the time.

your plural’s in the wrong place…

can plural be possessive?

There’s a petition going around Louisville right now demanding that our mayor make us a Sanctuary City. I’m pretty proud of the resistance I’m seeing here locally.

So what’s he going to do when they don’t turn up anything…or is he going to make sure it does?

Not necessarily true. He can direct the executive branch to investigate. This can only be bad news:

  1. It costs a ton of money that should be used for actual problems;
  2. It could have been a positive result as it would finally put all this talk to bed, but unfortunately, they’ve said they are only going to look at large liberal states. Anyone with half a brain can see this is just propaganda. The only incidents of voter fraud I’ve seen reported so far were actually for Trump (obviously I may be in a bubble and haven’t see a prosecution on the other side yet). But what would the results of the propaganda “study” actually show? They won’t show if there was significant voter fraud in red states or swing states that could have benefited Trump as much or more than Clinton, and it can only show good things for him. This is just like with the climate science reports now needing to get approval from his political staff. Wonder what results will get reported and which will remain hidden?
  3. Even if there was a lot of voter fraud, we cannot trust anything that comes out of this administration!

@damiana @tsp–Actually, I firmly believe that they will try to pin it on Obama. Fifty years from now, they will still be trying to pin it on Obama.

Yay! Mayors are really standing up. It’s great.

Call your representatives. It’s the only way they’ll do anything. I called mine today and told them to support removal of the president through the 25th Amendment.

We are their backbone.

(I keep calling Ryan’s office too, but the line is always either busy or errors after a few rings.)

Already did that! There needs to be a narrative out there:

"W.T.F. are Democratic politicians doing? If not now, when?"

It will be bad news alright - bad news for every state SOS who has been fiddling with voter registration and ballots.

More waste of taxpayers’ money.

Xavier Becerra has his work cut out for him, on top of the normal “full plate” that comes with the job. I hope he’s really ruled out running for higher office in 2018.

“These are cries for help.”

No, these are the mad ravings of a fucking lunatic. His EOs are from insanity. The peaceful transfer of power is looking more like a hostile takeover.

We see, the world sees…the Republic is in grave danger. Things won’t get better unless those in power stand up and make it better. As of today, I don’t see many profiles of courage to turn back the tides of madness.
