I admit that I was one who (at first) thought it was rather likely Trump was trolling (the GOP). I didn’t believe Clinton would be dumb enough to conspire with him. My thinking was led in part by past interviews I’d seen or articles I’d read where politics or politicians would come up. My take on him was that he was pretty pro-business, anti-regulations but neutral or leaned left when topics turned to social issues … that he was the sort of person who understood the positives in allowing people as much liberty as possible. I also remember seeing him in pics with the Clintons, seemed quite friendly. He even commented in the past how much he liked them. Granted, I took it all with a grain of salt because I sincerely believed Donald Trump just could not be one to put himself on full display – that he surely kept a lot private and that he was likely a more personable person with decent manners. Yes, I was flat wrong. Even after his birther shitting, there was still a tiny part of me wondering if he wasn’t just leading the racists and haters on … just for whatever jollies it gives him. Well, I’m guessing I was right about the jollies part, but I was wrong about him leading on anyone. He was leading, for sure–he was leading the mob with a pitchfork in hand.
Again, all that said, I never believed Hillary colluded with him. This man is seriously demented. He is very dangerous. He’s even dangerous to himself should he not get whatever way he believes should happen–these stakes are extremely high and he’d likely have an aneurism on camera if he was humiliated enough. Donald Trump is so far caught up in his narcissistic train ride and feeling the wondrous glow of the adoring crowds, he does not understand he isn’t controlling the direction – except he does realize he must get even wilder with his outlandish accusations and pronouncements to keep feeding the fuel that gives him the warm glow of said wondrous adulation.
When he crashes, it will be EPIC – and I hope no innocent folks get hurt (in all seriousness).
Trump speaks in plain language what the GOP has been speaking in veiled and semi-veiled language for years, and now the establishment pretends to be shocked, just shocked. They sowed the wind, and now they (and the rest of us) reap the whirlwind.
I think the Trump phenomenon took everyone by surprise. The smartest political writers all were absolutely sure he wouldn’t run in the first place, and none predicted he would get as far as he already has. But now that we’ve all gotten to know him (ahem) a bit better, it’s safe to say he’s obviously mentally ill. The Clintons would never cook up some sort of plan with him, he’s much too impulsive, erratic, and dumb. But Bill certainly nudged him to enter the race, knowing it would scramble up the whole process and put the GOP in the wood chipper. And Trump, as a brain-dead narcissist, believed Clinton when he said Trump had a lot to offer the conversation. That’s how nuts he is—the leading opponent’s goddamn husband says do it and he thinks it’s from sincere admiration. Just amazing. And yeah, a very probable endgame is that Trump flies to pieces psychically. Remember that guy who committed suicide because of a whispering campaign against him? Trump’s a seething morass of resentment and insecurity on an average day. And now he’s running for President, a job he’s monumentally unsuited for. You’re right to worry about the people around him. I wouldn’t want to be them on a good day, and the days to come will not all be good.
LOL. After eight years of another Clinton administration, Trump will be, what, 80-ish? Bill will have Secret Service detail for the remainder of his years – Trump and his people will never get physically close enough to take any kind of revenge. I guess it’s vulgar, nasty Twitter and Instagram hits until Trump is wheeled into the nursing home of his children’s choice.
No. But, it’s because he’s precisely the sort their (GOP and media bigs), at least, 40 years of manipulations were meant to deny that makes this so perfectly, beautifully just, apt, due…whatever.
I early on expressed hopes of down ticket table turning but Dem leadership, so far, expresses a subtlety that borders of the comatose.
I’ve read a couple articles recently saying it would actually be better for the Democrats if he got the nomination and didn’t run independently. If he went indie, the people who voted for him would probably also vote for Republicans downticket. But if he’s the top of the Republican ticket, lots of otherwise likely GOP voters wouldn’t go to the polls at all, and both houses of Congress might end up in play.
I believe that Trump is too shallow and too stupid to fly to pieces psychologically—he’s so clueless and so incredibly narcissistic that he will never feel the shame necessary for psychic pain in the first place. The worst he will feel is if he doesn’t dominate some transaction, but his emotional response is no different than if he bangs his head on a cabinet door—just pure lizard brain anger.
With that psyche you’re in the funhouse—he’s been behaving with shamelessly shameful inappropriateness for decades, certainly. But he’s inappropriately antagonistic over any conflict whatsoever, and he’s sailing into a huge crucible of it now. He’s also facing a deep sense of rejection—pols with very strong egos get depressed when they lose, and Trump’s ego is dangerously weak, that couldn’t be clearer. He flies into rages over nothing, and more and more he’ll be facing a very serious something. The only glue holding him together is a ridiculous preening narcissism—that’s not something that lends strength in the dark nights. I don’t really know the stupid SOB and we’re all just guessing, but I honestly hope he can survive this.
