Discussion: Trump Threatens Tax On European Cars After EU Slams Steel Tariff

Thank you. I’m certainly not the only person who’s ever noticed he’s got a contrary streak. But licking the third rail is my own little contribution to the literature of Trumpian reverse psychology.

There has to be a way to put your plan into action. You don’t need the real Obama, just a Twitter Obama.

Is Trump and Co. trying to formulate their own Usexit? If he really wanted to stick it to the rest of the world he’d sell off all his overseas properties, holdings, and cancel all contracts. That would sure show them!

Does Donny-boy know that the lion’s share of European-brand cars sold here are made in the USA? (And that his new tariffs will make them more expensive?)

Maybe a member at the club will mention this little-known fact at dinnertime. In my experience, living all my life in one of the most affluent counties in the country, a lot of rich people are cheap AF. Not all. But a lot.

It’s great having trade policy decided on a whim by a petty, dimwitted, brain-damaged man-baby throwing a temper tantrum, isn’t it? MAGA – Make America Great-depression-like Again.

There goes the free Costco membership on top of God knows how many American jobs. The guy thrives on conflict and relishes his role as saboteur. Someone, please, hack or release his tax info. Vlad, please, release the piss video.

Yes, but the rise in price of EU-made cars could open our markets to such currently overlooked alternative brands as the Yugo and Moskva. I’d certainly be surprised to learn that this trade war was going to effect the manufactures of Russia or any of its clients. In fact, we could view this as just another incentive towards the reorientation of American international policy towards a Washington-Moscow axis, a greater good from which we will all in the long run benefit. Think cheaper caviar, tovarisch.

No matter what, it will be “those” countries fault

If memory serves, among the entities that stand to be hurt and are hopping mad at us—or at least at him—are South Korea, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, and the EU.

This will hurt European car companies.

It will also hurt the US.

It’s a classic Lose-Lose. Unfortunately Donald Trump doesn’t understand. He thinks that if Europe is losing America will be winning. In reality the US isn’t just gonna hurt in the short term, but in the long term. Credibility that has been built up over centuries is being destroyed in months.

The best part about Trump’s actions and threats are they constantly hurt US allies more than anyone else (for example, most steel imports come from Canada…only 2% from China). And now the US is threatening the EU.

But this is not surprising. Trump is a bully. And as a bully, he is a weak kneed coward. He won’t threaten those who are antagonistic to him because they may actually fight back. Instead he will try and threaten those who want to have good relations with him, because they will avoid conflict until the last possible moment.
