The Chinese and the Russians want the US military presence in the Western Pacific diminished. So in a deal to “de-nuclearize” the Korean peninsula, Trump will agree to withdraw strategic weaponry- submarines, missile carrying ships, aircraft carriers- some distance to the east, say 500 miles. Call it the “Kim Line”. The young Kim will make some pledge and the Russians and the Chinese will tell D2Scoops they will hold him to it. Trump will lap it up, get his piece of paper and the photo op, maybe even holding it stepping off AF1. Chinese and Russian strategic interests are advanced, ours are lessened. Winning!
Young Kim serves a purpose in being the ostensible reason for such a retreat, but much more important is that any threat from the US to Russian and Chinese interests from the US in the western Pacific is reduced. Meanwhile, their nuclear capabilities completely dwarf Kim’s, and US ability to respond to moves by either Russia or China are slowed down by being physically pushed east. Trump is viewed by others as an easily duped sucker and patsy.
Of course, all Trump sees is a shiny piece of paper.
