Discussion: Trump Stirs The Nunes Memo Pot By Denying Democratic Rebuttal Release

I have to shake my head in despair at the Congressional Dems.
“Let’s write a counter-memo!”
“Great idea! When will it be ready for release?”
“As soon as Trump gives it the OK.”
“Excellent. I’m sure he’ll do the right thing.”

I mean–what planet are these people on? When are they finally going to adopt a posture, and a narrative, of constitutional emergency? When are they going to show some spine? The institutional and ideological timidity of Democratic officialdom–as opposed to the grassroots, who are taking the fight to the GOP with great success–is endangering the country. Nunes is a lying fool, but he conjured something out of nothing and showed great imagination with the Dan-Brown-like secret memo. When will Ds actually take the initiative and frame the discourse?

Yeah, I too think it stopped being about party vs country long ago. This has very little to do with a political party and partisanship. This is about them being aligned with Trump and Russia.

It’s been that way since 20 January 2017. Now that’s a third date that will live in infamy.

Schiff is brilliant, but he’s being completely outwitted, and is utterly reactive. Nunes will release more memos, and Schiff will be running around in the smoking ruins of our democracy making intelligent points to a forum that no longer exists. I’m sick of saying it, but the system has broken down. Checks and balances no longer exist. Dems need to pull back, come together, and take a radically new approach of resistance, because as matters stand the snowball of authoritarian chaos grows larger by the day and is now seriously threatening the prospect of fair elections and the very idea of the Democrats as the party of oppositional resort. It’s one thing being gaslit by the GOP; but being gaslit by our own people–who fled the scene of battle during the debt ceiling talks even though the Republicans could not muster enough votes to keep their own government open–is what really sends me over the edge.

Your prescription would be better accomplished if there were large, sustained crowds of people who refuse to go home, rather than shoving all responsibility (and criticism) onto Democrats.

read a house memo to the president on the senate floor?

I don’t disagree.

As if that helps them… :expressionless:

Place your bets now on #1; when the Dem memo will come out #2; who will release it and #3; will it be a leak or an override of the Orange Menace.

The memo wars are in full swing, the spring swing. Nunes’ first effort flopped like a dying fish. The Dem response must be all that because the Traitor Community is attempting a blockade-but it will see the light of day and Nunes is trying to craft a not stupid memo for round 2 of the Traitor’s response. Which will most likely lead to another Dem response and another blockade.

Time wasting is all it is, the Mueller investigation is a legal action, whereas the Repub response is all posturing and working the rubes.
I’ve got my money on the legal side.
Trounce is fighting the law and we all know how that one ends.

Dems should read it out on the House floor. They can’t arrest them.

You need to inform yourself of what’s going on. Make the Road activists have been arrested in their hundreds in the Senate for peaceful protests for DACA. There are marches going on in NYC by groups like Rise and Resist as I speak. Thousands of postcards are being written to PA voters to vote Lamb. Grassroots Dems are fighting every local election tooth and nail and winning and flipping seats. The chronic problem is that it all fizzles out at the Congressional level, where a culture of fearful calculation dominates. There was nothing to stop Schumer from making basic national security demands (on Mueller, on voting safeguards) the precondition for saving the GOP from imploding its own government. He didn’t. There was nothing to stop Ds from framing the shutdown as a historic implosion by a party that controls everything. They didn’t. If McConnell and Schumer traded spines and brains, you would have seen very different results.

It’s easy to talk trumPP. Keep this positive adjectives at hand: amazing / beautiful / best / big league / brilliant / elegant / fabulous / fantastic / fine / good / great / happy / honest / incredible / nice / outstanding / phenomenal / powerful / sophisticated / special / strong / successful / top / tremendous / unbelievable

And these negative adjectives at hand as well. boring / complete and total / crooked / disgusting / dishonest / dopey / dumb / goofy / horrible / interesting */not good / obsolete / out of control / overrated / pathetic / ridiculous / rude / sad / scary / stupid / terrible / unfair / weak / worst

And to really up your game

Changing the channel on a TV is never censorship, in any context. Private bidness can do what it wants.

Personally, I don’t think that obstructing the process is a good way to defend yourself from charges of obstruction. But that’s just me.

Maybe its the policy of the best defense is a better offense? Trounce should collude more with the colluders, evade more taxes, shower more wealth via the government onto his family and pardon Harvey Weinstein, because smart strategy. DOH!

Thanks for the tip, hunny, but the fact remains: NO ONE IS AFRAID OF THOUSANDS OF POSTCARDS AND VAGUE THREATS OF A BLUE WAVE.

However, people are afraid of large crowds that refuse to go home. See under: Poland, protest of proposed law about judges. I don’t think a single postcard was mailed in that case.

If you’re calling for asymmetric politics, you better go all the way.

Right. Meant Schiff. It is a Wild West landscape these days. Why not?

Personally though I don’t think it’s all very important now that ‘The Memo’ has been totally discredited and dismissed. Plus The WH Wife Beater’s Club via the media has already buried the embarrassing memo.

A few years back I was in a car dealership waiting room and the TV was mercifully off and everyone was working on laptops, reading etc. And then a car salesman walked by and turned the TV on to Fox news turned up the volume and walked away.
