That’s not historically accurate, I am afraid to say. The plan for invading France was drawn up by Mannheim, not Hitler. Hitler used it to basically completely undermine and ultimately destroy the OKW(German Command of Armed Forces, basically). And Mannheim’s plan differed significantly from both OKW’s and Hitlers.
OKW was basically going with a repeat of the Schlieffen plan used in WWI. Hitler wanted to kick it off in the winter (which would have been an absolute disaster) and that caused intense friction as OKW kept finding “excuses” (like feet of snow on the ground, inches of mud on airfields) not to go.
While they were waiting for the right conditions, Mannheim’s plan got circulated and eventually ended up in front of Hilter, even though OKH (Army high command) and OKW had shot it down. Mannheim’s plan was to put the brunt and the weight of the attack through the Adrennes, while having the northern wing advance just enough to pull the Allied forces forward into the plains of Belgium (which they did), and the come crushing through the on the southern flank and completely encircle them (which they Germans more or less did).
It WAS a very good plan, but the main appeal for Hitler was it was a method to undermine OKW (and OKH to a lesser degree) so he could eventually assume complete control over planning.
It was a rather ironic moment, as Mannheim abhorred what Hitler was doing to the High Commands, yet it was his plan that ended up being the beginning of their undoing. And by the time we got to 1944, Hitler has taken complete control over planning (both OKH and OKW, at least on the Eastern front), and who did he lock horns with? Mannheim, who basically refused his “no surrender” bullshit and ran one of the most impressive mobile defense campaigns in history against the advancing Soviet waves. And promptly got booted out for his efforts.
Now you understand why Mrs darr banned me from watching Billo O’Reilly. Same impulse to kill the TV. I do watch Trump (with the sound off) And I must say the false equivalency proffered by Wolf and the other media types has rendered the 4th estate emasculated. By rights they should be railing at Trump for his idiocy and not choking down any semblence of a sane response. I’m coming to the conclusion that all of the media outside TPM and Democracy Now are in cahoots with Fox News at one level or another. I hafta limit my TV news viewing because at my age sudden anger can lead to forming clots in vital body parts.

btw: My dad raised quarter horses. I was tasked with the stall duty each morning. I can commiserate with the shoveling idea.
Would somebody please call a professional in to interview this guy! There are so many ways to take him down. Practically every other word he utters is an opening. I can’t watch this. Too frustrating.
Did you see her tweet in response to Trump’s tweet where he claimed she lied about what he said? It included a link to a memo documenting when he made the statements. Team Clinton did its homework.
Instead of clamming up and waiting for the nominating convention, he insists on motor-mouthing his way into one boner after another. For this I am grateful. More, please.
So he wants to hand-select the judges for his own legal battles. He’s out of his mind, but we knew that already. I still can’t believe there are people dumb enough to believe this guy has any shits to give about this nation or anybody in it but himself. His logic is sick.
Someone just posted it on another thread…and I loved it! Sec. Clinton has only begun, methodically and professionally, to flay Trump…and this has many months to go. If yesterday was any indication, he may have a coronary before the convention in July!!!
Remember Cosmo Kramer? On the Seinfeld show? Donald does a really great imitation of Kramer. Seriously, I wonder if Michael Richards used Donald as the model for the Kramer character. Next time you are unfortunate enough to have to listen to Donald, just imagine he is Kramer - try it, really. Watch his walk onto the stage at a rally, for example.
Using Trump logic the judge can’t be of South Korean ancestry because he wants to make nice with North Korea, can’t be European ancestry because he wants to pull out of NATO, can’t be a Muslim because he is Strong on terrorism. Can’t be a woman for about a thousand reasons. Who the hell can be a fair judge of Trump?
As usual, Trump insists that he be treated differently. Then again, it doesn’t occur to him that the election might be about the American people, not him.
Trump has never served in office and yet after five years of running for president, he hasn’t bothered to learn much. In the end, here’s the total of his campaign: I have unbelievable qualifications, everybody else is terrible, just terrible. And yet Trump University University isn’t going to impress any reasonable person with his qualifications.
Of course, there are better businessmen than Trump who would do better as president, but some of them, including a few who support him, would have to learn a different way of doing business. One begins by not relying so much on talk radio cliches, or the private conferences of wealthy oligarchs. Learning a few new things actually helps.
This is it, folks. The one we have been waiting for, and knew would happen. Trump is in meltdown over thin-skinned comments and ‘Mexican’ judges (Tapper, you blew it by initially repeating that racist moniker, but caught yourself later). The press is pissed, finally, and is calling the shots now.
Trump responds as we thought, in nuclear meltdown. This is it. If not the nail on the coffin, then the first few taps.
Oh my. I almost wish I hadn’t read that. I’m not as familiar with family history as some relatives are, but my family was lowland Scottish, MacLeod clan. My last name is Lewis. Please tell me I am not related to Donny. Being related to you is fine, but Trump? I’m suddenly picturing Luke scream NOOOOOOO when Darth Vader told him, well, you know.
An article today in The Atlantic by Matt Ford says that Trump is trying to conflate two cases: Low v. Trump University and Cohen v. Trump. The former is a standard class-action lawsuit. The latter is RICO.
Trump is racist, but that’s not a driving factor for him. There is more going on: ego, fear of jail time, fear of being poor, something.
Had Trump’s comment about the Judge been a one-off OK. But his denigration of Latinos began the day he announced his run. And it’s continued to build. It now extends to Mexican-Americans born here. Jim Crow…Jim Crow cannot be far behind should this abomination get elected. He obsesses about this fantasy wall between Mexico and America. SEPARATION !! Segregation!! Look!! They’re brown!!
That coronary cannot come too soon I am sorry to say

I’m having a wonderful ground beef chimichanga and home made refried beans for dinner tonight. It didn’t begin as a protest meal but it’s damned sure evolving into one.
Our around-the-corner neighbors here in very D Marin County, CA have a Trump sticker on their large (big, very big, bigger than you can imagine!) SUV. Their other SUV has a “I don’t believe the liberal media” sticker. These are a 40-ish white couple in a house valued at $738K (according to Zillow) with two cute elementary age kids. I’m guessing they live in a perpetual state of victimhood and anger.
