“And I have to say, I don’t understand Donald’s bizarre fascination with dictators and strongmen who have no love for America,” Clinton said in San Diego, adding that she would leave it to “psychiatrists to explain his affection for tyrants.”
True, they certainly do. But, IMHO, the scarpering off of a living candidate may be (probably is) different than the death of a candidate. The wording has to do with “dies” or “incapacitated”, but not sure if “incapacitated” kicks in if the guy just buggers off (does “lands in jail” constitute “incapacitated” in terms of a candidate? ). Perhaps the full document contains language about what to do when the candidate suddenly decides he doesn’t feel like it any more (although I am not certain anyone even considered this eventuality…).
But, even if the GOP could get the election pushed back (GOP: “OMG NO – 6 more months of Obama!!”), would this help or hurt? Would the fight be for Ryan (who wasn’t a candidate at all) or Cruz (who came in second place)?? That might ultimately cause at least as many problems and divisions. Or perhaps the compromise would turn out to be whoever gets the VP slot…? I don’t see an easy way out for them, no matter what.
If the man who would be sane actually became president, there would be a lot of deals he would push to make money on. It would be huge. I’ve no doubt a major rationale for Trump’s running is so he can leverage the presidency into enhancing his personal business and shutting down his critics and competitors.
His playing nice with Putin? It’s merely a message: I’ll let you do anything you want. You just make sure the sun never sets on a Trump business. Capisce?
Well, the easy fix is to re-enact Monty Python’s “bring out your dead” skit - kidding!
I’m sure the lawyers could draft language suitable to the moment… the candidate, etc, etc., unable to perform the duties to which he has been nominated, etc., etc…
Any subsequent nominee would have to take over quickly - if the party couldn’t decide on a replacement, and continued to squabble… you’re right, no easy way out for the GOP or the country.
Doors all over New York have been slammed in the colonel’s face, but
Trump says he has rented part of a large property in Westchester county
to Middle Eastern tenants who may be associated with Gadaffi.
After reading a few contemporaneous accounts of the Qaddafi visit and what knowledge Trump had of it, I’d have to say it may be that Don the Con’s account is mostly true.
Pause here to allow time for picking jaw up off the floor.
But it seems to me that most businessmen in Trump’s position would have donated the profits to something that would really piss off Qaddafi. Instead, Trump just pockets it? How does he manage to make himself sound even more sleazy every day?
