Discussion: Trump Retweets Remark About Jeb Speaking 'Mexican': 'This Is America'

I don’t include CNN in my own admittedly subjective definition of MSM but I’m looking at the CNN website right now and I see a variety of headlines but not specifically centered on him, almost balanced you might say.

The contrast with Jeb! is that Trump either believes what he is selling, or is a good enough salesman to fake it.

Jeb! may as well just go ahead and read out what Luntz’s last focus group had to say and walk off the stage. I find the sheer amount of dick-stepping to be remarkable. He might be the least competent politician I have ever seen who was considered to be a ‘serious’ candidate.

Trump is an ignorant gasbag, and seemingly proud of his own stupidity. There is no such language as “Mexican,” “Anchor babies” can impart no benefit to their non-citizen parents until the age of 21, at the earliest, and how Trump is leading the nomination race hinges on his appeal to know-nothings and others who are more stupid than “The Donald.” Part of me hopes that the rat-headed vulgarian DOES win the GOP nomination; then I worry that he might actually win. Highly doubtful, on both counts, but not outside the realm of possibility. Here’s a solid fact, if he is nominated, he’ll lose the “Latino” vote badly. Has anyone seen “A Face in the Crowd”? It’s becoming a documentary…

precisely, Trump is authentic (or at least capable of faking it), while JEB! just is phoning it in, and the rest simply fades in comparison.

No, but the fried Twinkie, white bread group did see his face on a slab of butter. No lie.

If it happens, it will sadly be in Missouri (the state that brought you his face in butter). My family won’t move…

The proper term for the Language is “Castillian”. The term “Spanish” was used because the central government all the way from Phillip II down to Francisco Franco wanted to eradicate the numerous languages spoken in the Iberian peninsula. And they did eliminate most, only Catalan & Basque (Galician maybe) remain as viable languages; but others (aragones, asturian, leones) went the way of the dodo. Mozarabe (spoken by muslims) and Ladino (spoken by jews) were outright ethnic cleansed.

And although nobody in Mexico refers to their language as “mexican”, it’s quite distinct not only has a lot borrowings from native languages (nahuatl mostly) but it has lost some of the sounds of Iberian variety, and has added some.

You’re way overthinking this, man. tRUMP is no linguist. And anyone in the US who’s talking about speaking “Mexican” is ignorant at best.

Well, better than speaking 'Publican, i.e. dog whistling and code-talking.

Yes, Nice post. Explainer in Chief. Man, do we need this.

“Birth tourism” is actually a thing from Asia (specifically China, I think), so he’s desperately grasping for something kinda real. But it’s a comparatively tiny number of rich people who come here to get the kid an American birth certificate and then go home, having made the kid’s eventual application to Harvard or M.I.T. easier to complete. “Anchor babies” isn’t exactly an accurate description of that phenomenon. And that phenomenon isn’t exactly what Jeb?!'s hateful party’s obsessed with, unfortunately for him.

Yes, it was a limp-dicked attempt to say "Wait, hispanics, I didn’t mean you. I meant…umm…(checks demographics) THAT bunch of foreigners!.

You can add Politico to your list.

I’m actually eating guacamole right now!!

Thanx for link. Now bookmarked.

Politico has an article about Bernie and Trump both tapping into this inchoate anger to fuel their campaigns. The article also notes the differences between their two campaigns.

Look at it this way, my noble friend:

You’re not alone.

And then you add the influence of “Spanglish” into the mix for both languages.
