It’s pathetic how easy it is to rise to the top of the GOP clown show. Who cares about policy? It’s all about slogans and sticking it to someone (the establishment, liberals, …). Trump is trolling the GOP and there is nothing they can do about it.

Post WW2 there was a flood of books and essays attempting to parse the rise of Mussolini, Hitler.
In our country there was the appeal of Huey Long. Analysts spoke of desire for “a man on a white horse” to come to our rescue during hard economic times and social turmoil. Sinclair Lewis wrote his “It Can’t Happen Here,” in 1935 (?), a satirical novel about a folksy guy who rises to become the US’s first fascist dictator.
People are angry. I hear it in the barber shop and waiting rooms and with odd comments and letters to editors.
No, I’m not suggesting we’re on the cusp of a fascist dictatorship, but I am suggesting we could head down the road in the blink of an eye. Social change can move along at a glacial pace then boom! move almost overnight into something good or, in extreme cases, the French Revolution or the rise of a Hitler.

The fact that Bush is genuinely bilingual is one of the few things that I do admire about him.
However–as Trump apparently perceives–among the kind of people who vote in the Republican primaries, being able to hold a conversation in another language is widely considered to be cause for suspicion.
And what does that say about them?

As much as people piss and moan about the MSM specifically NYT and WaPo you will not find bullshit stories about Trump on their front page. There are stories about strategies some candidates are considering to maneuver around him or some who have already been outmaneuvered such as Scottie or stories about how deeply, historically unpopular The Harumph is with Hispanics, driving them to vote, I’d hope. But it’s clear beyond any doubt we get volatile stories for no purpose other than as clickbait and it’s nothing but lazy reporting.

Nice reminder of the various Spanish sub-languages, but I truly doubt Trump has the intellect to discern between various Spanish dialects. Like George Bush before him, Trump thinks all Latin Americans and Hispanics speak “Mexican.”

Yes, Jeb! is bilingual but that does not translate (no pun intended) into an ability to forming and putting up front a coherent, humane immigration policy in his so-called candidacy because it would get him laughed off the stage.

In all seriousness, it’s a failing of Democrats that they have not managed to tap into that Tea Party anger. I’ve always said that the TP had every right to be angry at what has become of this country; they just misunderstand what’s causing our decline - conservatism itself, combined with crony capitalism (two sides of the same coin, really).
Angry liberals have more in common with the TP than the DLC Democrats. Well, except for the racism. Oh, and the misogyny. But since these particular ‘low information’ voters have apparently been successfully re-programmed by Foxy Nooz they may have been lost to us.
Maybe Hillary could get the Explainer In Chief on it?

Well, I think Trump is a lot smarter than most people think (and a lot smarter than W)…
He may be obnoixous and a bully with some really twisted values, who shouldn’t be president,
but I think he is very good at gauging what his crowd wants to hear and serve it to them in convenient soundbites.
He is trying to win a nomination, not some ‘nice guy’ price, and he does what it takes, in contrast to JEB!
