In Spain they actually have four official languages: Castillian (“Spanish” in daily speech), Catalan, Galician and Euskara(“Basque”, a linguistic outlier with a weird grammar).

When I tried to learn Spanish many years ago I was told that the Castillian languages in the Americas had deviated from the root in both meaning and pronounciation, so I don’t find it unreasonable to talk about ‘Mexican’ or ‘Argentinian’ as a language/dialect.

I live in a city that is 35%+ Hispanic and just under 50 miles north of the Mexican border and I can confidently say the local Spanish speaking population is not enthused about this Trump guy. To put it mildly.

Just a reminder to all that Cheb! is married to a Mexican and has half-Mexican kids. (Trump knows, of course, Bush is actually speaking Spanish). Many of Trump’s adoring fans still think New Mexico is part of Mexico.

Gimmeafugginbreak. Nobody speaks “Mexican.” Mexicans speak Spanish. They even call it by that name: “Espanol.” Americans speak English (by and large). They don’t live in England. But we call it English, not “American.”

Next you’ll be telling me that use of the word “Spanish” is a surrender to political correctness.

Be nice, folks. ClausCPH went to Spain once and tried to learn Spanish. Of course that gives him/her the right to make sweeping proclamations about other cultures.

And here in Europe some of us differ between American and English (there are quite many differences in spelling like Colour/Color, Kerb/Curb ).
