The ultimate result of McConnell’s SC machinations may be a SC that is basically a rubber stamp for the party in power for the foreseeable future. The current SC is already there for the Repugs. If the stacking continues through a generation or so, they will have to build a bigger building and bench to hold all the justices. This would be the end of it as an effective institution and Roberts undoubtedly understands that.
