I’m not a climatologist but I’ve been following the subject as a matter of general interest since the spring of 1975. At about the time that the conclusions became scientifically noncontroversial in the 1990s, the denial industry got rolling.
At around that time, the Heartland Institute had lost the tobacco war and had a ready-made organization staffed with amoral “researchers” at the ready to shift to a new field, so their funding source shifted from the tobacco industry to the fossil fuel industry. I started to see a lot of papers written by people with PhDs and was very puzzled until I looked into the people in some detail an learned that the PhDs were in political science and their climatology papers were printed in bogus journals with legit-sounding names.
Looks like Trump found another stooge from Heartland. They love hiring people who sound qualified but aren’t really, like this fossil.

Its amazing what the fossil fuel industry can buy with all their billions of dollars these days in order to keep the country as dumb as possible. For all their efforts though, they aren’t getting as much bang for their buck as they used to with their propaganda. They’ve increased their profits with tRump’s help and at our expense, and they’ve managed to slow a trend towards green energy, that had already proven to be a real job creator in our economy, but they’re only in the driver’s seat as long as we let them by electing Ignorant Inhoff types that cater to their bottom line. We can have energy sustainability, job creation and save the planet all at the same time without having to destroy the environment in the process. The idea that we can’t do one without affecting the others is a canard the rightwing Kochheads want people to believe for purely selfish, greed-driven reasons. They’re never satisfied sitting on their billions. They have to continue to destroy everything just so they can make even more money for themselves.
