Discussion: Trump Passes Buck To Senate For Restrictions On Kavanaugh Probe

They’re sowing confusion and I fear it will work. People will simply wind up thinking there was an investigation and it turned nothing up.

We are well and truly fucked.

In case you missed this week’s Last Week Tonight, John Oliver does a pretty good recap on Kav the Spaz’ unfitness for the Supreme Court.

I wish he would’ve focused on the ramifications of Gamble vs US, the case deciding the “separate sovereigns” exception to double jeopardy that would provide Toadglans and Klan’s “Get Out Of Jail Free” card. But alas.

All we can hope for is that after the on-going golden shower Dotard has been dousing the FBI with, they will make damn sure they find and release ALL the truth on Bart O’Kavanaugh.

No surprise he is blowing smoke. The real question to me is what do Murkowski, Flake and Manchin think of these restrictions? I’ve given up on Collins showing any leadership on this issue. I think if her vote isn’t already in the bag, at best she will follow the lead of those other three.

“Kavanaugh’s third accuser, Julie Swetnick, ‘has very little credibility’…”

“…said President Crowdsize.”

Three Card Monte, a shell game, hot potato - pick your metaphor, none of them (the GOP Senator judiciary committee, the President, WH counsel, Kavanaugh) want to take responsibility for this FBI investigation.

“However, whatever the REPUBLICAN senators want is okay with me,” he said. [He] added that “I’m instructing them as per what I feel the REPUBLICAN Senate wants.”

“My White House will do whatever the REPUBLICAN senators want,” Trump said, stipulating that he wanted “speed.”

And later: “I’m guided by the REPUBLICAN Senate. I want to make the REPUBLICAN Senate happy, because, ultimately, they’re making the judgement.”

Fixed it for ya, Two-Scoops. :rage:

He is agreeing that if it is partisan, he will go along with whatever his team decides. He wants to force his team to be in with him or not. This is ugly stuff.

Fran Lebowitz on TV last year said New Yorkers hate him not because they’re liberal but mainly because they know him. “NYC real estate people don’t even consider him a developer, they consider him a three card monte dealer.”

Great stuff. Everything is turning out as any sensible person could have predicted. Cowardice, deceitfulness, and assholery all the way.

What did that salad even mean, other than “Ha-Ha!”

Flake needs to come out today and say investigation must be as broad as it can be or he will vote against. And, he needs to direct his comments to Trump, McConnell and the White House Council.

And, I need to win the lottery.

Which will come first?

I don’t know if dickhead is one word or two (dick head), but Trump is one.

who’s surprised that he folded when it came time to stand up?

As someone suggested elsewhere, it’s time for the daily press briefing on the floor of the Senate recounting the allegations that have come forward and pointing out the obstruction and artificial deadline the Repukes have imposed on this “process”.

Is this another example of 'Winning so much you are going to get tired of it"

I, for one, am tired of it…

I think everyone commenting here is missing the big picture. Yes, Trump and the Senate Republicans are trying to rush this nomination through with a minimum of oversight. Yes, they’re trying every diversion technique possible to obscure the fact that Kavanaugh is both unfit and unqualified.

But the big picture is that the confirmation vote has been delayed, and will probably be delayed again. The Republicans know that time is their enemy here. Every day, every hour… hell, each second we can drag this out gives people time to dig up and reveal more evidence to prove Kavanaugh shouldn’t be confirmed.

Already both Collins and Murkowski appear very much against confirming him. They just need more time to summon up the courage to stand by their convictions. Flake also appears ready to break on this.

I don’t think Kavanaugh will be confirmed. I believe this, not because I’m sure the key Senators mentioned have already made up their minds, but rather because I’m reasonably sure that more revelations will be forthcoming in the next few days, with or without the FBI’s help, that will bury this nomination once and for all.

Have a little faith in the truth, people. I know that’s hard in the era of Trump, but truth can prevail if it’s just given time.

I was somewhat surprised when he directed the FBI to investigate, but not any longer. The only surprise is how he’s able to blatantly obstruct justice and, in this case, an investigation.
