Discussion: Trump: 'No Good Time' For Haley To Leave, But She Did So 'Elegantly'

It’s clear that Trump (and other Republicans) have a boner for Nikki Haley. Unless “elegantly” is a new synonym for “abruptly.”

O for Christ’s sake.

Sailed off like a beauty pageant queen, blowing kisses and dropping compliments like rain.

She makes me long for the days of Condoleeza Rice. At least she was serious.

Keep using stereotypical language to describe what a prominent woman does, stable genius. Chicks dig being called “elegant.”

Elegance is very important. Not like stomping off and slamming doors behind you. We should bring back elegance.

If all the members of this administration will just line up to the right, yes, over here, and walk nicely through the double doors, smiling and waving, this can all be done in an afternoon. On the other side of the doors, please stay in the courtyard for afternoon tea and hearty handshakes all around.

In this context, I think “elegant” probably just means she hasn’t written a damning book or released damning recordings.

Haley’s departure isn’t acrimonious, and she’s not attacking Trump on her way out. Trump gets so few opportunities to make this clear, since so many of the backstabbing snakes in his administration decide to stab some backs on their way out the door.

Well…I think it’s more inappropriate in this context than it’s a crappy compliment generally. I think – of course from anybody but Trump – it’s not a bad compliment at all. And I like it applied to men too. As in Obama was/is an elegant man.

But I imagine Trump thinks he’s elegant too, and that Melania and he make an elegant couple. That’s why it’s no compliment from him. He has no idea what it is.

“There really is no good time,” he said. “She told me about this a long time ago, and frankly it’s almost four weeks, so it’s not that bad. I don’t think so, I think it was very elegantly done.”

This is just like what he told Lester Holt after he fired Comey. The “she told me four weeks ago” sounds like pure unadulterated bullshit.

I’d say you can’t go wrong assuming he’s thinking in the tritest, most stereotypical terms imaginable. I’m gonna guess he means “elegant” like Jackie Kennedy elegant. Leggy brunette elegant. I don’t think he means elegant like an economical proof in geometry.

You think he’s capable of appreciating Jackie O’s looks and style? I’m not sure. A lot of men didn’t – and maybe still don’t – get her.

No, he personally likes a bit less subtlety. But he’s heard the word “elegant” associated with that kind of thing since he was 15 so he understands that a certain type of female celebrity is called “elegant.” Classy dames, you know?

I love it that the NY Times said of Jackie Kennedy, that she made the world safe for brunettes…

Really. Keeping your hair dark in the 60s was a form of swimming against the tide.

I don’t understand why she’s fondling that bulge at his waist. I would have locked both my hands at my sides.

And @mattinpa

I get that blondes in America were kind of the Gold Standard. But, Audrey Hepburn. Irene Papas. Barbara Parkins. Gina Lollobrigida. Sofia Loren. Annette Funicello. Res Ipsa Loquitur. I rest my case.
