Yah yah yah. They existed and they were hungered after by some. But Grace Kelly really was the gold standard.
I was a kid in the 60s and not one of my mother’s friends didn’t bleach her hair. Or no. There was one. Literally one.
Dude, I’m an American and I think when Irene Papas comes into that café and glares at all the men there in Zorba the Greek, that’s the most beautiful image of a woman ever captured on film. And let’s not forget that famous publicity photo of Martha Argerich smoking a cigarette. You’re preaching to the choir here. : )

Agree with your assessment of the Zorba scene, that scene and several others. As you know, she is also in Guns of Navarrone (and seems to end up with Anthony Quinn at the end) and plays Grigoris Lambrakis’ wife/widow in Z.
@26degreesrising Half Italian and Half PR here. Yeah, I left out Anna Magnani who is in some great movies including a hilarious Italian life vignette movie from the 60s called Made in Italy. I am sure entire sociological, psychological, anthropological and colonial mentality studies could be written about bleaching of hair in various parts of the world in the Post WW2 Pax Americana. The Beach Boys burst on to the scene when my sisters were in a very heavily mainland student body HS, and I would say about half the guys bleached their hair too. Then took up surfing at Rincon and Guayanilla.
