The “Saudi Consulate Event.”
A euphemism that needs to live in infamy.
This week, Turkish officials said they had audio and video evidence to support their claims that Khashoggi was killed by Saudi officials after he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul at the beginning of the month. Officials said Khashoggi made an audio recording of his own death on his Apple Watch.
Why on earth would they not have shown them to Pompeo unless he specifically asked not to see them for ‘Plausible Deniability’?

Whether or not Pompeo heard the audio is not the issue. The issue is Khashoggi, as far as we know at this point, was brutally tortured, murdered, and mutilated at the Saudi consulate. And Saudi Arabia after two weeks or so is still struggling to explain what exactly occurred. Not to mention one of the fifteen alleged attackers was just coincidentally killed in a traffic accident in Saudi Arabia.
The Turk’s have clearly bugged the Saudi consulate. But they want to undermine the Saudis, so are using the cover story (in the article) that “Officials said Khashoggi made an audio recording of his own death on his Apple Watch.”
Nah, did not happen. The Turk’s rushed off to the airport in real time, which says they were listening in real time. However, they don’t want to admit it. If they turn over the tape it reveals what happened.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE have been together flighting a battle to shore up “princely/nationalistic” rule vs. the Muslin Brotherhood. Erdogan is playing an ugly game. He is being funded by Qatar, and has troops there (holding off the Saudis) and he is going for maximum pressure to push the Saudi’s back so he can take center stage in the middle east. He will let this come out slowly, know that by its ongoing lies the Saudi’s make it impossible for them to climb down later w/o a major loss of influence.
That other dropped shoe needs to hurry the f up.

She’s going to be President. I don’t like it, but voting for her will “prove” that Republicans aren’t women-hating racists. They’re going to need that cover.
Who cares whether a pathological liar is joining a chorus of pathological liars in denying whether or not another pathological liar did or didn’t hear a recording?
Personally, I would care more about what the former head of MI6 thinks.
It’s also worth noting that you can bet the Turks aren’t going to hand anything over to anyone associated with Toadglans von Blabbermouth that might undermine their sources and methods.
Turks and Pompeo both say he was not given the tape. This by no means precludes that the Turks played the tape for Pompeo.
Okay, are we playing semantics here? NBC reports “Turkish source said Pompeo had listened to the recording” but Turkish officials and the State Dept say officials did “not give[n] a voice recording to Pompeo.” One can have listened to the recording without having been given a copy of it.
I think he misspelled “Wood Chipper Orgy”.
If Trump says Pompeo didn’t get the audio, you know that he really did. That’s one thing about Trump, if you always believe the opposite of what his mouth is saying, you can’t go wrong.
My first thought was that Trump was giving up a painfully obvious admission by presenting a forceful denial - by specifying no “video” and no “transcript” he doesn’t deny Pompeo heard the audio.
But my second thought was that, as usual, Trump absorbed his info via barely understood Fox News, and for him “tape” means videotape, so he didn’t realize that there was audiotape to deny.
We know, Donnie, every piece of news not out of your big mouth is fake!
And, if they slowly pick off one after another there won’t be anyone they can pin the murder on.
Nobody uses tape, audio or video, to record anymore…they use other digital media. The denials are all carefully worded to avoid saying they were presented with evidence of a crime. This is all subterfuge, sloppily crafted and inelegantly delivered by second-rate political hacks.
Last I understood the Saudi’s speak arabic, the Turks speak Turkish. Trump’s butter ball SOS speaks only English. Playing the tape is unlikely to be edifying for him, unless someone translated it for him. What is important is to analyze the tape and then tie particular voices to people.
I am far more interested in whether the Turks have given that to US (or EU/UK) intelligence agencies.
The problem with Pompeo is he is too fucking stuped (or in Trump’s pocket) to shut up when he does not have full information.
Pompeo went to meet Mohammed “Bonesaw” Salman just to get the stories straight and set the price for U.S. support. I believe they have already picked a scapegoat from the security team to take the fall, and he will soon disappear and everyone who wants Saudi money (Trump, the US government and multiple billionaires looking for a piece of the $500 billion city MBS is planning to build) will quietly sneak back to the table in a few months time. We will quickly return to normal, where a cool billion can buy you the right to murder someone in broad daylight.
