Discussion: Trump Is Too Distracted By The Crisis Du Jour To Care About His Reelection

Trump is getting old and tired. He is running out of lies.

Just another symptom of his running his “presidency” as a reality show.

  1. The writers will take care of the story, I just gotta know (sorta) when to walk on.
  2. Ad libbing is a valued skill.
  3. Gotta keep the ratings up or the voters won’t “renew”
  4. Merchandise with my name on it is proof of high ratings.

2020 is “next season” – why worry?

I wish. But suspect he is a bottomless fountain of BS.

Sounds like there’s one horse in this race that is ready for the glue factory…

And oh, what a killer season the writers have planned!

There’s the October surprise performed by Bibi in a shock air raid on Iranian nuclear sites that puts the whole Middle East on edge.

There’s the planned springtime death of Roe v. Wade (although the writers are still negotiating with Roberts over this. Appears to be a payment issue).

And to cap it off, voters showing up in key battleground states on election day will have turmoil at the polls as they are turned away because russkie hackers shut down some systems and altered voter rolls in others.

None of this story strikes me as untrue. First, we know from Fire & Fury that PP spends his evenings yakking on the phone like a 90’s teenager on summer break. We also know that he projects truths about himself onto others and does so on a nearly hourly bases.

Second, does anyone at all question whether he would direct aides to lie about something, about anything? When he’s not whining and lying, he’s telling others to whine and lie.

Third. people are struggling to believe he’s distracted? Really? Have you heard of Donald Trump? One of the least surprising things in the world is the notion that he’d rather focus on the most shallow aspects of campaigning like songs and merch? Who is surprised by this?

All of this sounds exactly like typical PP. It doesn’t mean he can’t or won’t win despite it, doesn’t mean Democratic candidates need to run their races any differently, but mostly it isn’t all that newsworthy. The only nugget at all that I find remotely interesting is that he’s getting tired of the travel schedule and rallies. It was bound to happen I guess that a morbidly obese, septugenarian with a horrible diet, one who avoids physical activity like he avoided the draft, would grow exhausted from the rigors of the presidency. It is interesting though that the rallies are no longer the sugar high they used to be for him. It’s interesting and a little terrifying to think what he might attempt next in order to feed his ego if rallies aren’t working anymore.

I live in East TN and during the 2016 election every time I heard “but he is a business man” I just about puked. I tried to tell friends that he was anything but, however, they just did not want to hear that. They had made up their minds that he was gods choice, the last great white hope. That sentiment has not changed much over the past few years.

Budget smudget - we’ll steal the money from another account. Better yet, we won’t pay anyone at all.

I keep seeing polls that have him underwater in many of the states he won - especially the Rust Belt. So I’m not sure how great he’s doing …

Yeah, those Biden/Trump debates should be scintillating.

So Donnie two scoops & wanna-be-a-felon has Trump fatigue too?

Good to know that he has joined the rest of us in that party.

Stories like this remind me of the reporting before the 2016 election that had him failing to prepare for the debates. Hillary won those debates and Trump looked like a menace in the 2nd debate. Didn’t stop him from winning* the election.

People are saying Trump is “too old” and “not as popular as people think.”

I’m lukewarm about Biden, but he sure is a great foil against Trump.

But that was a unique situation. After decades of concerted and personal attacks from the Right, large chunks of Trump’s votes were anti-Hillary ones, not pro-Trump.

He doesn’t have the luxury of going up against someone who has a most-hated status with a large chunk of America this time.

Trump is also reportedly fixated on Democratic challenger and former Vice President Joe Biden

Biden’s campaign theme should be, “I’m the only candidate he truly fears.” It may not get him the nomination, but exposing the underbelly of Chicken L’orange would only weaken him in the general election.

He can run all the ads he wants and hold all the rallies he wants and stoke his ego. The numbers don’t lie, just as they were spot on in 2018. Trump is historically unpopular despite a solid economy (which a majority knows he just inherited anyway) and most people’s minds are made up about him. 54% say they will definitely NOT vote for him and 40% or so say so they will definitely will. So Trump’s ego is soothed and he feels he can be complacent because in his mind the 54% don’t count.

Biden slaughters him in all the states that matter, including unexpected ones like NC. Basically, Trump has lost the suburban voters that any Republican needs to win, even as he’s put a stranglehold on country bumpkins who foolishly thinks that a metro-sexual from New York and Hollywood gives a crap about them. Instead of a BS televangelist, this time they’ve bought into Trump. So screw 'em.

Sure, Biden’s not as “progressive” as progressives would like, but he has something better: soul. As a result, he manages not to either be or appear condescending to blue-collar voters, while reassuring white-collar suburban voters that he’s not going to start a political revolution they know they will end up paying for. And that’s why he’s crushing Trump and opinions on him are pretty firm and favorable, among just about everyone except hard-core Trumpers, GOPers (i.e., liberal-haters) and progressives.

So who is shopping this story, and why? Are they just trying to burnish a post-trump career? Is this the beginning of a push to replace trump as a candidate? Did the NYT just supply them with enough hookers and blow?

Donnie has the attention span of a buffalo gnat.
