Discussion: Trump Is Too Distracted By The Crisis Du Jour To Care About His Reelection

Accurate reporting or not, that sounds every bit like Trump.

Story from the NYT? Yawn. . .

“He only wanted to hear about his approval numbers, the songs on his campaign playlist and having final approval over his campaign merchandise, according to the Times. He hasn’t even asked to see his 2020 budget.”

What about the ongoing crisis at the border? Emergency!

But he solved the crisis! Mexico has agreed to everything and more! I heard it on the teevee, so I know it’s true!
I’m assuming that the “crisis du jour” is a euphemism for “media isn’t buying the story about how he solved the crisis.”
When your reelection campaign people leak what a pathetic mess you have become, it’s telling.

I anxiously await news from his tie-lengthening facility.

Planted a story with the stenographers at the NYT to mislead everyone? Nah, they wouldn’t do a thing like that.

His playlist of songs must be very short–that proud to be an American song and some Rolling Stones–at least if his campaign is actually getting permission from artists now.

Exactly, that was the way he was when I first meet in the early 90s, for sure could track only one thing at a time. If I remember correctly he not only kept a day planner in a pocket but had an assistant with a copy to enter info and remind him. It never did any good as he was also a “one more thing” type, usually the one more thing was something that was cleared weeks before and minor at best. However, that one more thing was a make/break thing for The Dumpster.

This is typical. Recall the latest book where he spent his day looking over fabric swatches.

True. Data provided by the folks at 55 Ulitsa Savushkina, St. Petersburg suggests that they have infiltrated enough electronic polling stations to guarantee a win regardless.

This is not news. The NYT could be doing some real journalism and we could be reading about it here. In a world that is not constantly trying to poke the bear.

The masters would not like it that someone was actually doing their job. The 4th estate has been bought and paid for many times over over.

Trump has been running for re-election from the day he was elected. That’s all he does. He doesn’t care about the details.

Yeah, but no. Trump has spent millions on the key Rust Belt state social media advertising. He’s holding rallies there at every opportunity. His approval rating with Republicans is very high. Trump is in great shape.

Meanwhile the DNC, the organization charged with countering this, has spent zip. It is struggling to raise money because (1) primaries are sucking up donations, and (2) the scarcely credible failure of the House Democrats to make something of the Mueller report has had a disastrous effect on the Democratic base–the people who actually make the donations.

What to do? It’s very clear.

  1. Ignore Washington Democrats.

  2. Donate now (not next year) to the grassroots regional organizations that won the 2018 Blue Wave. They can bring this thing home. Wisconsin Dems are probably more important than the presidential candidate, and they’re led by the estimable, dynamic Ben Wikler. They (not a primary candidate) should be everyone’s #1 donee.

Man, he was a piece of work back then, wasn’t he? He was a high society and tycoon wannabe…I can’t believe he was actually elected on his merit as a major business success.

Although it isn’t the NYT article’s main intent, it sure does paint a picture of cognitive decline.
