I doubt it. He’s just like them, or just like they want to be.
Amen to that. His winning the big prize is literally unthinkable. What’s happened already is bad enough.
A friend of mine used to teach at the fancy private school his son attended. She said that it was totally obvious that both father and son were dumb as fenceposts - utterly without any intellectual curiosity.
Not at all a surprise. Outside of graduating Wharton, where nobody remembers his distinguishing himself in any way despite his claims otherwise, there are no indications I’ve ever seen that he’s unusually smart, and mountains of evidence that he’s unusually ignorant and limited in reasoning ability. He’s not considered an impressive guy by NYC developers, from what I’ve read. He’s famous mostly for being self-promoting, which is caused by the saddest, most pathological narcissism you can imagine, so basically he’s the Elephant Man: known fundamentally for his extreme deformity.
.I saw that argument being pushed last night by right wingers. Islam isn’t a religion, its a political movement. They call it “Islamism”, and try to make some weird distinction between Muslims and Islamists.
Actually, if people want to make a distinction between Muslims and “Islamists,” defining Musims as people who practice Islam but aren’t trying to impose their religion on others by law or by force, and Islamists as people who want to impose their version of Islam by law and by force, that would be fine with me.
As long as we also make a distinction between Christians, people who practice Christianity but aren’t trying to impose their religion on others by law or by force, and “Christianists,” who do want to impose their version of Christianity by law and by force.
Of course Trump isn’t saying he’d just ban “Islamists,” he proposes to ban all Muslims. So if the right-wingers you were listening to were trying to use this Muslims / Islamists distinction to defend Trump’s “plan,” then they were making no sense. If they were using the distinction to point out that Trump was foolishly blaming all Muslims for the actions of “Islamists” then they may have been somewhat on the right track, though likely for the wrong reasons.
You misunderstand the plan, but that’s not your fault, as there is one detail not yet disclosed that brings the whole plan together:
- Ask if they are Muslim.
2a. They say they are Muslims, and are banned.
2b. (not yet announced). They say they aren’t Muslims, but there’s no way to be sure they aren’t lying, so they are banned,
(3) Immigration problem solved!
As I said, it causes headaches to try and follow their nonsense. They introduce the concept of “Islamists” as a government, not a religion, and then interchange Muslims between the two as they desire. A Muslim is an Islamist when it fits their statement, they are religious when it doesn’t.
It runs in the vein of Obama is a communist dictator of complete incompetence who is craftily subverting all of America with his evil genius.
