Discussion: Trump Insists His Proposed Muslim Ban Has 'Nothing To Do With Religion'

In other news: “Up is Down” and “East is West.” Update at 11:00.

Well, in my own experience it’s rare everywhere, but encountered occasionally at all strata. Extreme wealth can be a factor, but extremely wealthy people have families who are just as wealthy as they are so it evens out a bit. (There’s plenty of perfectly lovely and sane rich people, I hasten to add.) But I’m willing to bet Trump has relatively few people in his life who can tell him, “Shut up, you’re being stupid as usual. Why don’t you use your fucking head once in a while?” He’s blathered on in his bizarre, pathetic way for decades and nobody’s told him to STFU in all that time. Leaves a mark, obviously.

One day even the tRumpers will wake up & realize the fact that Donald tRump is incredibly ignorant, incredibly insane, and is making America the biggest joke on the planet.

There does seem to be a pattern. Crazy goes with rich Republicans and social conservatives.

These people are too insular to realize that they are the ones making themselves a laughingstock.

Trump can pay off his ex wives and relatives. Nobody else is willing to cross him because he will file suit against them on some trumped up charge and bankrupt them into submission through delays and extensions to their cases.

Only other rich people could take him on. Far too many of them either sympathize with his ideas or don’t want to waste money that could be used for other things. He’s getting by with murder and having an awesome time doing it.

If it’s “not about religion” then it can only be racism, prejudice and irrational xenophobia, blaming an entire group of people based on their race, religion, or national origin.

But really, this is ridiculous. A ban based on religion isn’t about religion. Yeah, right. Next up? Water isn’t wet, down is up, and the sun itself is an illusion.

One thing I’ve noticed, as have a few other commenters here, including @MattinPA, is Trump really isn’t very good at thinking on his feet, extemporaneously. The man just reacts, and then later on tries to paper it over with more self-aggrandizing words and naked narcissism.

Well, BeccaM, I’m just going to blurt this right out: He’s not that fucking bright. If someone could show me irrefutable evidence of any sort that he’s at least mildly bright, I would consider it. He’s devoted himself to bullying over the years, and he’s achieved a modicum of success with that, but bullying is something an elk or a baboon can do. Thinking? I just don’t see it. I’d say IQ-wise he’s on the low end of bright-normal, and as far as intellect forget it, the absolute basics of reasoning escape him. Of course as a loser and a hater I’m prejudiced, but that’s what I think.

No words…

And I cannot help noticing that he seems to have a rather limited vocabulary. But he sure likes words that begin with a TR sound. Tremendous, terrific, terrible…

There are parrots—at least I’d bet 20 bucks there are—that have broader vocabularies than this yutz.

MattinPA: geez, mattin. it’s easy. forget asking people if they are muslims. just ask them if they are terrorists. ask everybody. no profiling needed. simple yes or no. i feel safer already.

Another one he wears out is “disaster.”

Donald, you keep telling us what a genius business man you are…
yet you’re making this way more complicated and labor intensive than it needs to be.

Since your plan hinges on people answering “Are you a Muslim?” honestly,

why not just ask: “Are you planning any terrorist acts?”

Since we’ve established that you’re going to trust people to give you the truth,
this question cuts right to the chase, eliminates terrorism, and makes you
look like less of a religious bigot/racist.

You’re welcome.

Perhaps he is telling the truth in this instance, consider this:

Monday the Monmouth University poll is released showing Cruz is leading in Iowa among caucus goers :

This is the first time Cruz has led an early voting state in his nearly nine-month-long campaign.

Cruz earned the support of 24 percent of likely Republican
caucus goers in the poll. That is a five-point lead on real estate mogul
Donald Trump, who earned 19 percent.

Next the Donald does his grotesque shtick, and the news cycle is dominated by his nastiness and not Cruz’s lead and the eminent end of Trumps campaign chances.

Just a thought

I wonder if Trump will prohibit white Norwegians (like Anders Breivik) from entering the USA ?

Your problem is that you don’t understand PubbieThink. What Trump said is perfectly logical and understandable to honest to goodness Pubbies. To people with sound reasoning processes, well, it can be confusing.

In Trump’s obnoxious behavior we’re seeing the odious result of an undisciplined, unruly child who was never corrected, grown up into a gross bully who lacks all self-control. Those who cross his path fall into two general categories: those who suck up to him and those who are repulsed by him.

It’s too late for Trump to learn how to be a decent person. It’s not too late for the rest of us to keep his foulness from spreading.
