Release the tapes!!!
An MGM lawyer and White House officials didnāt immediately respond to an email requesting comment.
They didnāt respond to the AP, but you should have heard the words they used in private.
Lordy, I hope there are tapes.
I donāt have that word in my vocabulary, and never have,ā Trump said.
False, but still I appreciate his implicit acknowledgement that his vocabulary has shrunk.
The more lawsuits the merrier! Is anyone keeping track as to how many there are against tRump so far?
That would require knowledge of higher orders of infinity.
Ironically, Donnie proposes to use the same tapes as the core of his Trump2020 campaign.
Dog whistling at its deplorable bestā¦
Somewhere between stars in the heavens and grains of sand on the beach?
Of all the things Iād most like to see go down, besides criminal charges and impeachment, itās the release of those tapes. I get that a lot of people donāt think it will make a difference. I do. There are an untold number of folks who honestly donāt think someone is racist unless or until they utter certain bona fide racial slurs. It will also badly damage other GOPers who will either be forced to defend him or go against him. Most of all, it erases whatās left of the thin veneer of āHeās not really racist-racist.ā It completely annihilates that argument in ways that no longer allows his supporters on the margins to continue to pretend this is all just politics. Itās also the kind of thing that would break through the bubble of those undecided voters who aggressively avoid politics.
Of this last group, I think thereās a sizable fraction of the population which adopts a low-information, post hoc position like āNo, Donald Trump canāt actually be [X], because thereās no way you could get elected if you were [X]ā.
Fill in the blank: racist, stupid, senileā¦
You really do have to rub their nose in the carpet, as you do potty-training a puppy.
I tend to agree with @erik_t. This is just ālocker room talk.ā You know, boys will be boys, blah blah blah. Trump really could shoot someone on 5th Ave. and his sychophants wouldnāt care.
āI donāt have that word in my vocabulary, and never have,ā Trump said.
Iāll bet he does. That brings his vocabulary to a whopping 137 words.
Just wait for the excuses. āHe was just saying that he likes āgingersā. He got the order of the letters wrong, but his intent was perfectly clear. Anyone who disagrees is a racistā.
Iām not talking about his sycophantic supporters which is why I specifically mentioned āhis supporters on the margins.ā We and the media waste entirely too much too time hand-wringing over the people who are immovable when, as this last election shows, there are many more voters out there who absolutely can be persuaded. This is the type of thing that pricks up the ears of the types of people who go out of their way to avoid politics. Yes, while many disregarded the Access Hollywood tape as locker room talk, this is just different.
That said, I know of a few marginal PP supporters whoād absolutely be disgusted by this kind of thing. They could blame the anti-immigrant rhetoric on the need to close the borders because āillegals are taking our jobsā and āthey need to come in the right way.ā They donāt see any of that as at all racist. They also donāt hear the dog whistles about other minorities. They think people of color are just being too sensitive. But let them hear the actual N word coming out of his mouth. All bets are off. And donāt forget his Latino supporters, for which there are actually quite a few. Let them hear him referring to brown people as āwetbacksā or any of the other disgusting terms used to describe Hispanics. I donāt think people understand how much actually hearing certain words fly out of his mouth would be a game changer. No, itās never going to change the minds of his most hardcore base, nothing will, but it will most certainly move the needle with approximately 2/3 of the country who arenāt enamored with him.
If there are tapes - and they present him doing and saying racist things - but not a rant or an assault - he may call it a lot of fuss over nothing - try to sweep it aside ā¦ but then play even harder to the racist elements in his base (like he does already - only more obvious) - he is still going to hang on to enough of the muscle of the GOP to thwart any challenge for the nomination - who will stand up inside the GOP and genuinely be a opposing voice? nobody who was in the Senate would be credible - not since they all caved on Kavanaugh (in which the vote ultimately was like a gang initiation where the inductees are made to be key participants in a horrible crime so that they burn their bridge to the decent and upstanding side of life - and are gang forever)
It is wholly irrelevant how he spins it. For a lot of voters, hearing their president spout the N word is a done deal, a game changer, and a closed casket. If he plays harder to the racist elements in the base, thatās even better because it will make it that much harder for people to cast it aside as a one-off use of the word. It will simply reinforce the fact that he didnāt just slip up, but that itās what he believes.
I donāt think that was ever in question no matter what heās caught saying or doing. Frankly, Iād rather he be the nominee and lose in a landslide than Mike Pence or Marco Rubio.

yes - but it is saddening that if every person that felt like this left the GOP - it would not get dramatically smaller ā¦ and there is group who would be horrified - but will rationalize
also agree - let him go full racist & fly into 2020 in an un-armed hang-glider and get blasted out of the sky
I think we should subject this to my Grandmotherās reasoning. āWhat do we knowā. Well, Trumpās word aint worth spit so his denials are meaningless. Trump does like to degrade and demean folks and is fond of pejoratives. And a bunch of folks say āyeah he did it oftenā. If I were to bet on this Iād say hell yes heās used racially insensitive language. But Iād bet against there being tapes. Those tapes would be worth a million bucks and no one has come forth to make the claim.
Not a smart move by the attorneys. I doubt they can back up that angle and a failure to do so just works for Trump.
