Trump… are those the talking heads at Fox news telling you to say this, or the voices inside your head?
What is the critical path? 1) confirm Kavanaugh, 2) fire McGahn (oops, already did that), 3) pardon Manafort, 4) lose the House in the midterms (oops), 5) fire Sessions, 6) Trumpian Saturday Night Massacre, 7) attempt to bury the Muller investigation before the Dems take over the House. Great, that should work really well.
I guess the scenario I’m contemplating is as follows:
-
Dems take the House.
-
Trump gets rid of Sessions, appoints replacement (Graham, say).
-
A-G Graham terminates Mueller investigation.
-
Dem House requests A-G to appoint a special prosecutor into Russia. A-G declines.
What then, officially speaking? Obviously there would be public uproar, a move to impeach, etc.
And you can take that to the bank. Maybe. Deutsche Bank?
Trump: I’ll Keep Sessions Around At Least Until Midterms
… Marbles And All
Oh shit, he’s firing Jeff Sessions tomorrow.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) even appeared to give Trump the green light to fire Sessions recently, saying he had “time for hearings on nominees that the president might send up here that I didn’t have last year.”
“… particularly if I am your new nominee.”
Grassley is a farmer—not a lawyer.
Chiselin’ Trump: “I’m not orange. I’m peach! Wait, I didn’t say ‘impeach.’ I said ‘I’m peach.’ You know, as in the color peach.”
Grassley: “So what? Sessions isn’t a general!”
Is there a difference?
I’ll Keep Sessions Around At Least Until Midterms
…“and then, I’m afraid we’re gonna have to put the ole boy down.”
Mueller: I’ll Keep Trump Around At Least Until Midterms
“His Southern accent is stupid.”
Well, after midterms I expect that Trump will be leaving office so, if he want’s to take Sessions with him, so be it.
I’m sure they’ve explained to Trump literally dozens of times the idea of an independent, apolitical justice system that does not have, as one of its responsibilities, shielding the president from crimes he’s committed in or out of office. But he’s emotionally and intellectually just not equipped to understand that. Shielding him is what he means by “great job.”
“Trump: I’ll Keep Sessions Around At Least Until Midterms.”
Ironically enough, that’s exactly what voters are saying about Trump.
-
Meuller provides a partial (or full) damaging report to Rosenstein prior to the election
-
Rosenstein releases it just after the polls close on Election Day, to avoid the (fake) 60 day moratorium
-
Unless Trump beats Rosenstein to the punch, it will be too late for a new stooge (acting AG) to bury the report
