Discussion: Trump Ignores GOP Guidance On Tariffs, Believes Base Won't Punish Him

And his tweet. This is our President. It’s fucking mortifying.

“Their (sic) is no reason for the U.S. consumer to pay the Tariffs, which take effect on China today,” Trump tweeted. “Also, the Tariffs can be completely avoided if you by (sic) from a non-Tariffed country, or you buy the product inside the USA (the best idea.)”

Because proper grammar and spelling = socialism.

They still might vote for Trump and the Republicans, but I don’t think they are falling for his trade policies. Some have been under the delusion of, well, give it more time, but there have been no signs of an imminent breakthrough on trade.

Trump’s trade overtures to China, Japan, to the European Union, and his US-Mexico-Canada trade deal, are all faltering.

I went to a ‘big box’ store to buy porch furniture…the sales person suggested I buy it now as the store will raise prices to cover the losses they will probably have from ‘lost’ business when the new taxes/ tariffs kick in…I decided I didn’t really need new porch furniture, and told the sales person that I simply could not support these ‘policies’…I have no issue with CHINA.

Let’s see him backtrack on all of this - because he absolutely will have to. He can blame whoever but even his imbeciles MIGHT know better.

In other dumb shit republican projects, railing against Green New Deal. Most interesting thing is he points out the earth isn’t round, it’s cylindrical which explains how you can see the curve of the horizon and still sail off the edge! I guess the behind the curve folks aren’t completely wrong!

His bailout will not help them. He is putting them out of business. How many bankruptcies did Trump have? How many years did he have the honor of losing more money than any other taxpayer in the U.S.? How many banks stopped lending to him? Running the country just as he ran his businesses -we will be stone cold broke before he’s gone.

I thought I knew ‘country’ people…the fact they have allowed themselves to be snookered by a NY CITY slicker is incredible…and a 'coastal elite’to boot…

As of 10 AM the Dow is already down over 500 points.

And with trump’s forcing Iranian and Venezuelan oil off the market in combination with recent attacks on tankers in the Persian Gulf - expect gasoline prices to skyrocket too.

Maybe it’s time for Kudlow to remind trump that even Republicans won’t vote for him if he tanks the economy before the election.

“But the President reportedly thinks that his supporters believe he is sticking his neck out for them and they’ll award him with a reelection, according to the Post.”

Remember everybody, it’s Trump that’s making the sacrifice here!

AMERICAN ‘leaders’ forget that CHINA has been dealing in ‘trade’ for 2,000 years… TRUMPf has been doing it for 2years…and in his past ‘deals’ he has been bankrupt 6 times…IMO; the CHINESE and others have TRUMPf by the ‘short hairs’…

Ridiculous Hypothesis #2178: Given that presidents are more likely to be re-elected when the economy is in good shape and, up until these most recent tariff nonsense, that is what the political soothsayers were claiming would propel Trump to a 2020 victory, perhaps he’s actually trying to lose 2020.

I know this seems farfetched, but he did everything he could to lose 2016 and it back-fired. Perhaps, for Trump, a winning strategy is to do your darnedest to lose…

Gee, I wonder how the markets will respond today? …Oops

If it weren’t pouring (hi, global warming) I’d be up the road at the nursery arranging to container-grow tomatoes in my small backyard. Damn if I’m paying into Trump’s treasury just to eat a tomato. Made sure to invest in a bunch of needed photo gear a lot of which comes from China before these tariffs kicked in. #ETTD

But we forget: trade wars are easy to win—remember? He won’t notice unless the prices of cheeseburgers and gold spray paint rise.

You, me and everyone you know will pay.

“In fact, both sides will pay,” Mr. Kudlow said on “Fox News Sunday.” “Both sides will suffer on this.
