Discussion: Trump: If I Dropped In The Polls, I Would Quit The GOP Race

Exactly, Davey. I think a lot of people are ignoring this part of his statement, the part that matters:

“Number one — I’m not a masochist,” he said. “And if I was dropping in the polls where I thought I wasn’t gonna win, why would I continue?”

That’s absolutely every pol’s reason for getting out of a primary, so it isn’t a big revelation. The candidate realizes the polls are pointing towards a loss, that they can’t win, so they exit the primary stage. It’s exactly what Perry and Walker did, and it’s what Rand Paul and Christie will likely soon do and for the exact same reason as Trump stated above. Don’t know about you, but I can’t recall too many candidates who’ve said, “I’m doing well in polling, and I have a good shot at winning, but I’m dropping out of the race anyway.”

Supporting(allowing air time to) Trump does not equate to supporting the GOP. In fact, just the opposite. MSNBC knows Trump is good for Democrats, he riles up OUR base too. The rest of them follow the loudest, most outrageous buffoon they can find=Trump. The longer Trump is center stage the worse the damage to the Republican party.

Jeb! may be #1 on his hit list but I think he is aiming to take down the entire Republican party. If that is his goal he is closing in on complete success. Go, Trump, Go.

Yup, and I think he’s just telegraphed his trajectory and exit strategy over the next few months. I didn’t want to get my hopes up, but he does seem to have become even more incoherent recently, contradicting himself within hours or days of making a statement. This has got to bounce him around a bit, and when it does, he can announce that it’s not fun any more (or, more likely, “I’ve got this YUUUGH deal I have that
s come up, so sorry America, let’s try it again next time”, or something like it…)

Yep, they’re pretty much “supporting” Trump the same way Nancy Grace “supported” Casey “Tot Mom” Anthony.

Shorter version…" I dont even want to be president…this was all a joke. How was I to know republicans were so weak and pathetic as to support a lizard like me"…

Your right

I’d imagine Trump would need to be really far behind before he conceded winning was impossible.

But is he really aiming this at some of the other candidates who are holding on despite going nowhere (Jindal? maybe even Jeb?)

Very simple. He can’t say “I am winning in the polls” which has been his reason why he is better than everybody else. His length of stump speeches will be shortened by 90% if he can not recite all the poll data. He might have to talk about the substance.

Hey he’s a businessman. No, not the smartest, but smart enough to know how to suck money out of a large portion of the suckers born 18 plus years ago. So if he sees his campaign starting to lose money he’ll declare bankruptcy and get out before he loses and leave the investors with the debt. It’s his business model, it works for him, and he’ll stick with it.
