I’m sure Barr is proud right now

Yes we know. It’s why he never should’ve been confirmed and one of the many, many, many reasons why you should be impeached.

Once again, Trump says the quiet part out loud.

The new republikkan party (aka fascistgop) has managed to free itself from the constraints of decorum, decency, and the pretense of accountability. The public embrace of corruption and authoritarianism must feel so liberating to them.

Another one of those stopped clock things, hunh. Of course the AG trump selected to protect him would have protected him. Duh.

Shorter Trump: “Barr may not be Roy Cohn, but he’s close enough for me.”

ETA: Odd (not really) that Barr could determine that there was not - and is not - obstruction. His own nomination, confirmation, serving as AG, and letter stating there was no obstruction are part of the obstruction.

In a followup interview with Lester Holt, Trump will say “OF course I hired Barr to end the Mueller Witch Hunt”

Ah it’s good to see the old Paunchy and Humpy Show add some new material their repertoire.

Well it looks like even Fox’s Napolitano is saying Trump shouldn’t be so casual about the release of the Mueller report (which Fox claims is 700 pages long). He states what every news outlet should be saying—namely that “of course Mueller found evidence of conspiracy,” just not enough to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. He also says Trump’s opponents are going to have a “field day” with the report.

If anyone truly believes Trump would like to go back in time and appoint Barr if he could, does not know Trump very well.
I think he loved this investigation. It was great theater and distraction for him because he always had the right people there to make sure he was going to be vindicated and be able to use it for a campaign issue in 2020.
Trump is all about “the show”.
This is more of a dream reality show for him with a global audience than just merely a presidency.
If it becomes obvious to him that he will lose in 2020, I shudder to think what he might try.
If the media refused to cover his tweets or anything he said for two weeks, I think he would implode.

Trump publicly accused unnamed members of the FBI and DOJ of committing treason. It speaks to just how warped and polluted our current norms are that no member of his party has stepped forward to say that’s a bridge too far. In any other era “Put up or shut up” would have been the response, at least from a few people in various quarters. Today a President can toss around public accusations of treason, a capital offense, and it’s treated no different than Obama filling out an NCAA basketball bracket.

The most logical act would be to start a cataclysmic war. It would serve as both an all encompassing diversion and distraction, sucking all the oxygen out of the room, and produce the typical public rallying to a President’s side we see wars generate. Pick some bogeyman, a nation full of swarthy brown people that he’s spent a few months ginning up animus towards. Iran comes to mind. Give Israel a heads up, bribe them into acquiescing and being prepared. Sort of like the Gulf War redux.

Or if Jeff Sessions hadn’t been scared to do shitty things as AG and cover up all my collusion.

Remember that this is all Putin’s playbook. Chump doesn’t know enough to make ANY of this happen. None of his strategy is his own, and if it weren’t for Putin backing his plays and giving him an “out” should the worst happen
Chump would be absolutely drowning in his own incompetence. I don’t disagree that he loves the “show” and all the wild chaos. Chaos used to be the only way he could level the playing field, and his own skeevy lying and just surviving like a cockroach were his tools. Now there is a directing power, a guiding hand, and it isn’t His or Republikkklan’s strategy.

About what most people expected Trump would say
although I am surprised he waited so long.

But, no worries. It’s the same error in judgement.
