Discussion: Trump Has New Term For 'Fake News': The 'Opposition Party'

Or is it simply a matter of corporate imperatives?

I don’t think it’s as much about excitement, although that certainly seems to be a component, as much as it’s about this idea of balanced coverage. Folks like Chuck Todd are extremely sensitive to criticism from the Conservative echo chamber and they feel they must churn out some negative story about Democrats to counterbalance all the negative coming out about Republicans. What’s the easiest trope to run with about the more disorganized of the two parties? Democrats in disarray. It’s simple and they can always find examples to make their case. Sure, they could also find as many (or even more) within the Republican Party, but then they’ve already got all this negative stuff to report about Republicans. So, back to Democrats in disarray.

Truth is the enemy of tyranny. It doth follow, as the night the day, that truth is the enemy of Trump and his entire administration. From Trump’s point of view, it is essential that the truth be stamped out, tweet by mendacious tweet.

Particularly delicious is the incongruity of trying to stamp out the truth with something called a “tweet.”

Someone, probably one of the remaining Adults in the WH, might offer the President some Basic American Civics and Constitution lessons. Remedial ones. Short texts, large print. But “Enemy of the People” and “Opposition Party” in the same sentence only show his total lack of understanding and qualification for his job.

Back in the day, spokespeople were those with better-than-average public relations skills whose job included creating a positive spin and making their bosses look good. Terrible Tyler’s nasty tweet was just a Trumpalike potshot. Were he working for anyone else, he’d have been fired for it within 15 minutes.

God, I hate these people…

Care to clue us in on who that might be? I wasn’t tracking on any remaining after last week with the rest of the Generals’ Purge.

White House Counsel maybe. Or someone on the kitchen staff perhaps, are probably well versed in Civics. And protocol.

The White House Counsel is likely to be much too busy for the next two years to take charge of this program, which would doubtless be a long and arduous one.

You could explain the Constitution to him every hour on the hour and it won’t mean a damn thing. He doesn’t care. All he cares about is, “They’re saying bad things about me. Make them stop.” That’s it. He doesn’t care how government is supposed to work. He doesn’t care about the role of a free press. He only cares about himself.

McGann left in October. And Melania fired the head chef shortly after the takeover in 2017…

Trump, in a pair of tweets on Saturday, coined a new term for the reporters who don’t slather him with positive coverage: the “opposition party.”

Somebody should tell that stupid fuckknuckle that that’s the job of the press; speaking truth to power.

Remember Nixon’s valet, Manolo Sanchez? To this day he still maintains that Nixon was framed!

Yes, and while they’re at it, they could remind the press as well!

“New” in this context means 'not previously noticed by the author".
