Trump really has zero bravery, negative bravery in fact. Calling him a coward is inflammatory and I choose to be diplomatic and not do that.
Trump absolutely has his brand foremost in his brain. It’s endemic and instinctual. He ran for president knowing that it would be good for his brand, expecting to lose, but ready to figure it out if he were to win by some chance.
Trump knows instinctively that bombing Iran or other military activity of this sort has huge odds of not coming out well. That would damage his brand, and if there’s anything he’s afraid of, that’s it. Really bad for his brand, really bad for his business. Isn’t going to happen.
Trump loves the chatter from Bolton and war hawks because it makes him look brave and sounds good for his brand. But actual action? An extremely low possibility. That explains why he doesn’t want Bolton and company to get too far out ahead of things. It’ll be character building for Bolton to stew in his own juices for a while now.
Seriously? Don’t tell me he didn’t know what he was getting with Bolton and where it would lead.

Trump is beyond unfit for office. Not knowing that Bolton is “warlike” shows a total lack of even basic curiosity about anything that’s happened in terms of foreign policy since before 2001. It is criminal incompetence.
