It’s hard to be worse than Trump, but Bolsonaro manages.

Hey ABC, NBC, CBS news, keep doing your normalization and ‘both sides have opinions’ thing. Soon you’ll be worried about more than your contract coming up next year. Ask your Russian colleagues how much fun it is.

This morning’s Economist daily email briefing title was awesome:

Alter ego trip: Bolsonaro meets Trump

Today will be the first encounter between two populist presidents who share a taste for incendiary tweets, nationalist rhetoric and reactionary policies on crime and social issues. Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro are expected to keep ramping up pressure on Nicolás Maduro’s regime in Venezuela, sign a deal allowing American rocket launches from Brazil’s north coast and announce the end of visa requirements for American tourists to Brazil. Less likely will be American support for Brazil’s bid for OECD membership or concrete progress on economic relations. Trade between the countries is just $100bn a year, a sixth of that between America and Mexico. Mr Bolsonaro kicked off his three-day visit by dining with conservative ideologues at the Brazilian embassy where he railed against communism and spoke of the need to strengthen democracy in the West. “It’s the first time in a long time that a Brazilian president who’s not anti-American arrives in Washington,” he tweeted.

How is it that so many people in the country don’t see how far past his sell date he is? How can he just keep trotting out the same old shit and they keep eating it up?

In the context of Jamal Khashoggi’s murder, the five journalists murdered at the Capital Gazette in Maryland, Russia’s new “fake news” law, Duterte’s fascist crackdown, and of course Tribble-head’s constant denouncement of those who speak truth to power as “the enemy of the people,” this is alarming as fuck.

Two years into the gaslighting nightmare of Trump’s daily assault on democracy, and the support he gives to and receives from true enemies of humanity and basic human rights, it is easy to be numbed by the overwhelming scale of it all. Thank the gods we took back the legislative branch in the USA, but there’s a lot of fucking work to be done, even if and when we defeat Trump.

On a note that is actually not at all unrelated, but in fact part of the bigger picture of the societal crisis humanity faces, today is the 16th anniversary of when the US invaded Iraq.

TRump continues his popular “bad guy” tour by kissing up to autocrats and pissing down on our friends and allies. He is like a targeted virus.

If Bolsonaro had called the media the “enemy of the people” it would have been like one of Cindy Yang’s employees had steamed Trump’s trousers.

They are not doing any heavy lifting, they will be just as happy working for the State News.

As long as he continues to eat fast food, troll progressive politicians and spout thinly veiled racist comments he will never lose that hard core 35%. There is not a lot of awareness or deep thought going into this idolatry, and there is no amount of obvious ineptitude or greed that is going to shake the faithful. He is their guy!

Trump is SO EASY TO MANIPULATE it’s not even funny.

Pathetic. Just pathetic.

Then why cant we?

Because you have to stroke his massive EGO to manipulate him.

When you oppose everything he does and stands for, it’s kind of hard to suck up to him.
