Discussion: Trump: Farmers Won't Be 'Too Angry' Now That 'We Just Opened Up Europe'

His polling is in the 30s in the rust belt; won’t be long before it drops in the midwest. As I’ve always maintained, many in his vaunted base are not as dumb as they like to tell “elitist” reporters from New York and D.C.

Trump was meeting later Thursday with steelworkers in Granite City, Illinois, where U.S. Steel recently announced it was firing up a furnace at Granite City Works that had been idled for more than two years.

It would appear that not all the steelworkers are giddy about Trump (and the union has endorsed the Democrat running for Congress against Trump’s traveling buddy, Mike Bost).

Let’s sell excess soybeans to the Nambians. They need the protein-rich diet in order to toil effectively in their Diet Coke mines. Then we invade. And we are paid in Diet Coke. Winning.

No, they eat there. Check your loafers.

That’s a zinger. I’m going to email my representatives right now and tell them that if Food Stamp recipients have to pass drug tests before receiving their aid, famers must be required to do the same.

It has to get pretty freekin bad for that to change their attitude though. The interviews I’ve seen go something like this: “Well, sure, it’s hard, but I believe in the Affluenza Messiah, and I believe it every time he and Faux News tell me it’s all working splendidly and getting me what I wanted, so if this is the sacrifice I have to make in order for American to become Amurikkka again, then I’ll bear that burden and do my part.”

Yes it is most disappointing that TPM appears to be not aware of this.

Dunno - some of them seem pretty mad.

I know their BS detectors are faulty, but just maybe they can figure this one out by themselves.

I keep leaving a pot on the porch but there’s never a damned chicken in it the next morning.

Have you checked it for a yellowish liquid? Because, some people still don’t have a pot.

I’m pretty sure the neighborhood chickens are wary of your front porch 111. Too many have never come back.

Harley announced other day it will take $50 million in 2018 and $100 million in 2019 in costs due to the Trade Tariffs. Those are COSTS linked to tariffs. Plus Trump is subsidizing $12 Billion in welfare (our tax money) to help Farmers due to the tariffs. You could get rid of the tariffs and save the $12 Billion.

On a personal note due to the tariffs on Canada. My company gets a raw product from Canada that has been hit by the tariffs raising the cost 20%-30%. Due to this we were in talks to get a 3% raise (I am in a Union). The raise was put on hold and a hearing by the Trade Commission in late August is scheduled to decide if the tariffs should be made permanent on this product. If so it will cost me that raise and possibly jobs.

Holy sht. He makes up a problem, he creates a trade war to fix the problem, he gets Congress to pony up $12 billion to ease the phony problem, he stops the fake trade war and crows about opening up Europe??? WTF?

In the seventies, when it rained, car paint would bubble off from the acid in the raindrops thanks to Granite City Works. I am sure they are longing for the good old days

The issue is while yes the tariffs might help this Steel plant. Other jobs are being lost in other industries due to those tariffs. It is shell game. If I was a worker in the Steel Industry. I would discourage my kid or others from going into the business. If you were 20 years old why would you want to go into the Steel industry in the US? That is how you deal with the issue. There are other jobs in other industries that have a better future. Why should others suffer to subsidize an industry?

He comes close to instigating a nuclear exchange with N. Korea. He goes to N. Korea. Yammers a bit on TV. Comes home and says we’re safe from N. Korea nuking us. And N. Korea is like “We were going to nuke you? Says who?!”

If Trump was a fireman he’d be the one always carrying around a can of gas and matches.
