(And European consumers are strongly opposed to GM foodstuffs, which is what US producers specialize in.) TTIP–the US-EU trade deal that Obama was pushing for and that has been the subject of years of detailed if secretive negotiations–has met with enormous resistance in Europe, where it is widely viewed as expanding the NAFTA regime to the detriment of the local producers.

Juncker simply does not have the legal authority to agree to buy a millions of tonnes of US soybean, not least because the EU does not function as a crop purchaser; and he certainly won’t have the political capital to cut US soybean producers some slack over cheaper competitors in, say, Argentina, simply because Trump has started a trade war that fucks over his own farmers.
This is total garbage, substantively. Iconically, of course, it may reassure some people who don’t know anything about it. I’m fairly sure that American producers will be a hell of lot more skeptical about this than Trump anticipates.

Doesn’t really matter. They still supported him and will continue to support him even if conditions for them worsen. These fucking people would use his shit to fertilize their fields if they could. At the end of the day, all that truly matters to them is that they have a white male POTUS who they see as their great protector from Global Browning and who they believe can deliver on the promise of securing a permanent white Christian hegemony to control the country and protect white Christian interests.

I wonder how much longer Trump can pull off this act? Putting bandages on gashes he made then taking credit for “fixing” something. Europe was never closed to America. Lately it’s been turned off by it though.
