The right wing of the RC church hates Pope Francis. Partly it’s Francis’ disposition and proposed changes. But Putin has a hand in it too.
Remember that JP II was instrumental in wrenching Poland free of the Eastern block. Putin is on a revenge mission about the break up of the Soviet Union. Tearing up the RC church is part of that, and it has many points of weakness right now.
There are conservative RC churches that feature homilies reviling Francis (“The ROT at the very top”) and praising Trump (“A defender of Life.”). I’ve heard them. It’s stunning.
