Discussion: Trump Continues Tweeting Jabs At Trudeau From Singapore

Looks like someone got under T’s flabby orange skin, huh?

Is it a bad thing that I’m a citizen of the U.S., but I’m rooting for Canada?
I don’t care if it is.

The point is simply to extend executive power. If Trump gets away with this, and he will, the national security requirement (which is now being applied to the Canadian milk threat, apparently) will no longer be operative. Compare the extension of Presidential war-making powers, now close to absolute.

So, do I end with a bleat about someone standing up for law, democracy, and the like? Or is that too pathetic?

Trump’s got it all wrong.
The lesser is always blessed by the greater… its downright Biblical.
Truly great nations don’t negotiate as equal partners, they are generous, noble patrons.
Lacking any semblance of that nobility, Trump’s commonly greedy in the most fundamental ways, and wants us to follow his lead.
With his desperate grasping and grovelling to make some sort of “deal”, Trump makes us just another player in the struggle, not the benevolent, WEALTHY BEYOND MEASURE world leader we should represent.
How can we be great if we aren’t that benefactor?

It’s a good thing he doesn’t need to prepare for the summit with Kim. Gives him more time for important stuff, like criticizing others for his own ignorance, ineffectiveness and failures.

The 1 minute assessment of success is all it will take in Singapore. Feel, touch, it’s what he does. Best negotiator in the history of the world. Look how well he just did at the G7 - an awesome accomplishment to bring all the allies together in agreement and harmony…well 6 of them, anyway.

Presidenting is so easy when all you do is lie, brag, destroy, bitch and moan.

After Trump has amply demonstrated what the word of the American President is worth, what his signature under a document is worth, what treaties and longstanding agreements are woth - well, Kim would be a complete idiot to dismantle his nuclear arsenal based on promises made by this President. If he does I can just see President Trump invading North Korea the second the last nuclear weapon has been destroyed, simultaneously sending out tweets how elegantly he fooled Ex-Little Rocket Man Kim into believing him…

Donnie the Klown komments again.

Anyone who follows foreign politics and includes the political scene in Canada in that, knows that this sort of nonsense has the almost uniform type of attack on Trudeau by rightwing Canadian political parties.

Apparently there’s been this theory, based on IDK exactly what, that in contesting national election politics, given that the main Canadian rightwing national party is typically outnumbered about 2:1 by some combo of Trudeau’s centrist Libs and the social-democratic I’m gonna say progressives? ND party, so long as the rightwing party therelacks its own viable policy platform to contrast with the Trudeau-led centrist Liberals (which seems like, except for austerity and corruption, cold mean almost all the time), the only thing they can do is launch personal attacks on Trudeau as a rich man’s privlieged empty-headed son of a pothead Rolling Stones bangin’ mom, a low IQ dreamer, so weak of mind he can’t maintain a theme without using slogans and short words, who will back down to anyone to avoid a fight.

Thing is, this attack on Justin Trudeau has been going for more than a decade now in federal politics, plus the rightwing press in Canada spent 3 decades before that laying the base to support this meme, believing that in a smaller country and oneir the longest serving prime ministers and a commanding intellectual figure in national politics and internationally as well, it’s important to plan ahead in case the son of such a man might also choose to enter politics, like with the Kennedy clan here.

So the Canadian RW press, pretty much just as dominant there as it is here, has been beating on Trudeau this way for 40 years, and he just ignores it, sidesteps cheap talk and continues to preach policy while using a simple upbeat maybe even boring positive vocabulary that, at worst, makes him seem like Mathew McConaughey in car commercial. Apparently people like handsome hunky dudes who espouse human rights and talk all dreamy.

His father Pierre was known thru the world as a brilliant mercurial sharp tongued hot head who may well have been the smartest person ever to run for public office in human history (I have no idea how anyone goes about proving or disproving such things, but I do know that the 2 books I read in college that were written by Pierre Trudeau the professor were amazingly deep and freakishly predictive of what’s emerged now as the information age, the internet and robotics, and that PT or PET as they called him could be pushed into saying things that made him look cavalier and dismissive.

But the son Justin isn’t like that at all. Insulte Justin and it’s all like water running off a loon’s back to him. And the thing is. Canada’s rightwing have come to know this to their regret.

So the picture that emerges where is one of Trump and the Trumpalos working off Old Intel stale-dated disproven even stupid intel. And it doesn’t seem to have worked, so naturally Trump and his Trumpalos are doubling down on the failed strategy.

Reports and op-eds in even the RW dominated Canadian press are now pointing out that this confrontation is actually working in favor of Trudeau in his national status.
Watch how he won’t even respond or engage and at most he will reiterate the same policy position he did over the weekend.

"Based on Justin’s false statements at his news conference, and the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs to our U.S. farmers, workers and companies, I have instructed our U.S. Reps not to endorse the Communique as we look at Tariffs on automobiles flooding the U.S. Market!”

You go God-King Trump! You slap hefty tariffs (sorry, Tariffs), on those Canadian auto makers like Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler! You have to protect American auto makers like Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler! /s

Also, as a Canadian who eats food (we’re just like you!), for most of the year, most of the produce I see is from the good old USA. I’m thinking the US farm conglomerates are doing just fine selling to Canada.

Lastly, Trump is an idiot.

Putin’s puppet tweets again.
He might be wearing his Purple Heart because his fragile ego was wounded by Trudeau.

Canada has a managed supply system which is working very nicely while we have subsidized production which results in surplus milk being destroyed and also manages to bankrupt dairy farmers.

Just hold on as long as you can and don’t allow yourselves to be scared off until after the election.

Not when it’s a choice between Forrest Trump and Justin Trudeau.

Writers from Left, Right and Center have observed Trump is either deliberately, or inadvertently out of gross incompetence and ignorance, destroying the Western Alliance in a fashion Putin would have employed were he so inclined. And he is. Trump merits much scorn for his idiocy and destruction, but Congress for the most part sits idly by as he destroys the china shop. McConnell and Ryan and those they lead are every bit as culpable as Trump. I’d like to see a few more fingers pointed their direction when critiques of this administration are made. Place the blame squarely where it belongs.
