Absolutely. If, for no other reason, most Texan politicians aren’t in favor of it. They understand the dynamics (economically & politically) of trying to build some sort of wall separating TX & Mex. Whatever partition is there now is what’s going to be there in the future.

As we approach the end-game for this miscreant I expect the thrashing about to get wilder and wilder.
What we're seeing with Trump's current political strategy is something very similar to the maneuvers of a corporation pulling out the stops to delay the inevitable coming bankruptcy. As with the corporate bankruptcy, one can't really predict what the final straw will be. - Nils GilmanHis considerable experience with corporate bankruptcies is not likely to translate well into the political sphere so, if he cannot find some kind an exit, I also expect to see worse than a government shutdown.

Even as Trump pushes nostalgia, you have the demographic trend of 5 billion people moving to some sort of middle-class (lower middle income) in the global population. Mobility of human capital is just as inevitable as mobility of financial capital. One way the Democrats can short-circuit this nostalgia is to end birth-right citizenship for non-residents. Most countries in the world have never had this or abolished it. Slavery has been outlawed for over a century and half, so there are no children of parents in the US living conceived by slave parents. It is a necessary step to regularized immigration.
