Trump: Congress and Senate have been a total failure for years. Obama went so easy on them that they have forgotten how to do anything. I want to make sure they earn their wages.
Yes, even if it is a long one–perhaps 12 or 14 years from the date of arrival, or maybe 10 years after attaining the age of 18.
Problem is, if Dems can’t obtain a majority for a path to citizenship, they will have to go along with what they can get to keep Dreamers in the country and able to work legally. And the bigots know that and may have the power to bar the path.
My first thought as always, where the GOP is concerned, is what poison pills will be in the bill. What programmes will they hold hostage? Basically, they won’t come up with a clean bill. It wiil be full of gotchas to gain political advantage or embarass Democrats. But one way or another, mark my words, they will fuck this up.
Sadly, you may well prove prescient.
Right. Hint (with a glean in the eye and a nod to the base). Relegate to out-of-favor-Sessions to do the announcement to point the fallout in that direction. But at the same time can’t tamp down that impulse to steal Sessions thunder and take a swipe at the GOP in Congress.
Most unstrategic (and dumb as a box of rocks) president of the US ever.
Yes, if Sessions won’t take questions, why is he there? Just announce it as a press release and do as all a favor by keeping mini-Legolas off the teevee.
Donny2Scoops had a HC plan, passed it to Congress who didn’t have 1. Fail.
He said he had a DACA plan, passes it to Congress they don’t have one. Fail again?
Yes. I can dig it.
Gosh, let’s see if I have this right. Trump is not going to extend the unconstitutional imperial edict DACA, and instead, according to Article 1, section 8, Paragraph 4 of the Constitution is having Congress regulate the process of naturalization. The horror!!
Dreaminals have no right to any claim to amnesty. Any route to amnesty which does not gain other enforcement and anti-illegal ground will be opposed by a huge proportion of Americans.
With this Congress? They might scrape together enough bipartisan votes, but you can bet that there will be a bushel of completely unrelated poison pills that will cause any bill to fail.
Once again trying the “not it!” strategy
does Trump do anything else? Paul, Mitch – how’s that bus feel, especially on top of all the others?
or not. polling indicates most American aren’t quite so rabid as you claim.
He’s rabidly racist all on his own.
Ashcroft was no slouch.
Ed Meese was as corrupt as they come.
Cant congress just keep voting to extend the 6 month deadline? ACA repeal and replace AND tax reform…and now DACA…i don’t know…more GOP implosion…WH/congress division…
True, but they never actually spent any time in prison.
Mitchell’s most famous quote is “Katie Graham’s* gonna get her tit caught in a big fat wringer if that’s published.” The man was nothing but class.

I do remember John Mitchell, and yes I’d agree that he was corrupt, but it was all domestic and in the service of getting a (bracing for backlash) qualified guy elected. Sessions is corrupt, a traitor, and worked to get possibly the most unprepared, unqualified, and publicly batshit crazy man installed in the White House at a time when world tensions are rising and he’s determined to exacerbate them. Plus Sessions is using his office to screw the clock back to pre-Mitchell, based on his own racist “values”.
So I’d give the edge to Sessions on this one.
EDIT: I also see that once again The Bride of Putin tweets out the announcement then lets someone else do the heavy lifting.
Hey, whatever. The point is the rule of law, not the rule of the mob. The point is that rules are made by Congress, not by some Imperial Edict passed down from the POTUS, wiser and more compassionate than we mere mortals. President Kennedy said, in relation to the enforcement of access to education by all, “We are a government of laws and not of men”. The Democratic Party and "liberal’ activists have made a mockery of this notion, where the idea that “popular” is the manner in which laws are made. This is a lie and a travesty of our history. Democrats remind us over and over that rights are not granted by popularity but by law, in relation to LGBTQ stuff. But with immigration, the comments are that illegals are popular, and so we should give them amnesty. That’s a huge pile of crap. It’s not happening.
