It’s all about money to him, innit?

His complete ignorance of the Constitution is reaffirmed every time he opens his mouth and/or “tweets.” He is so completely unfit for office, yet the GOP holds on in hopes he will help them pass tax cuts for the rich. What a world, what a world…

“Churches in Texas should be entitled to reimbursement from FEMA Relief Funds"

Osteen’s church of the golden calf missed a great opportunity to grift an easy mark.

And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me. But remember to keep all of your receipts, and within 120 days of expense fill out FEMA form 137/B in order to obtain reimbursement.”

Uh huh. And he’s always moved in a world where you bribe people to get things you don’t legitimately deserve.

Churches in Texas should be entitled to reimbursement from FEMA Relief Funds for helping victims of Hurricane Harvey, after they give up their tax-exempt status and reimburse the government for back taxes (just like others),” Trump tweeted.

Fine. If churches want reimbursement then they can pay taxes, too.

All three churches were damaged in Harvey,…

Trump’s tweet addresses reimbursement for services provided not rebuilding.

These churches want money to rebuild their structures How about rebuilding infrastructure, homes, and lives. To the extent a church helps with this should be a part of their mission not demanding government $$ that would rebuild someone’s home or small business.

I recognize that communities of faith have suffered losses and that for the most part, they will be a big part of the healing.

But you don’t need a church to pray, especially a taxpayer-funded one. They’ve already skipped out on taxes for their entire existence, and I agree that’s constitutional. Many don’t deserve tax-free status in the first place, but that’s a different argument.

When thousands of families are now homeless, I really think the first priority should be stabilizing their lives, not reimbursing churches and “churches” for damage. After all, churches have insurance. Churches are not supposed to be all about the money and being the first in line for federal handouts.

Good point. There’s a lot of grift opportunity there. Rebuilding too, but charging FEMA eight bucks a sandwich and $100 per person per night (or whatever) is ridiculous. My church opens its doors when people need shelter or sanctuary because it’s the right thing to do and the community supports the effort with time and money. We don’t expect the government to pay ministers for the time they spend working with other churches, non-profits, or government agencies to address that need.

Jesus said unto them: “Who do you say that I am?” They replied, “You are the eschatological manifestation of the ground of our being, the kerygma in which we find the ultimate meaning of our interpersonal relationships.” And Jesus said, “What?”

Or if the churches want to provide essential services that they will be reimbursed for rebuilding, they could do it in a structure that’s, y’know, not a church.

Wow, there’s a bunch of angles at work here…

Re: the churches being damaged: If they want the government to give them money to rebuild, they should be happy to pay taxes, so they can benefit from those taxes.

Re: Trump’s Tweet: SURE. Reimburse the churches for the money they’re spending! Bring those churches’ relief efforts under the government umbrella. Make them into a push for more Federal safety-net spending, Donnie!! Let’s establish that precedent! Let’s nail that message home: “The Government is here to help you.” Screw St. Ronnie’s vilification. Time to shoot that zombie in the head.

Donnie’s instincts are really, really screwed up.
