To me, churches/religious institutions should be setting the example for neighbor helping neighbor with no strings. Plenty of ordinary people took their own boats and risked their own lives rescuing fellow Texans during Harvey.
Joel Osteen had to be shamed into providing shelter during Harvey. No fucking way should his mega-church be reimbursed for a damn thing.

Christian charities are a yuge business in this country. There’s a lot of profit to be made selling god to the heathen. After all, why believe in anything if there’s no money to be made from that belief? Just look at Amway.

Yep! Reimburse them, too! This is a national emergency, let’s all share the bill for it, so the charities and nonprofits can focus on distribution and putting the money to work in times like this, and save their own money for the important work they’d be doing anyway.

I dunno, I kinda consider their tax-exempt status (which is why they can’t get federal aid money) to be a violation. If we’re not recognizing any establishment of religion… why do we grant special status to establishments of religion? Call it another social club. Like the Lions’ Club. The Loaves and Fishes’ Club, or something…
