Shorter response: Trump breaks promise to save Carrier jobs. One thousand lose their jobs to Mexican factory.
Every job that’s lost is a Trump job loss. That has to be the modus operandi.
Bread and circuses doesn’t help if you’re gluten intolerant.
This deal reminds me of how the Trump Foundation works. Get other people (IN taxpayers) to give money to a company (Carrier) while Trump gets credit for it! Everybody’s happy, right?
The propaganda that will fertilize fascism in this country…
Had Obama done any of this direct involvement bullying or bribing, the GOP/Teatrolls would have gone fucking ballistic…well, more ballistic. All aboard the systemic corruption train…
No one should think for a moment this is a good thing. Why? Because you can bet your bottom dollar that one of the details that the Devil resides in is the issue of is state taxes. It’s a forgone conclusion that Pence negotiated a deal that will keep 1,000 low paying jobs in exchange for Carrier paying no taxes whatsoever to the State of IN and maybe, even some kickback deal whereby IN pays Carrier.
The State will lose a LOT of revenue that they need. For 1,000 jobs that will probably be eliminated anyway by the end of 2017.
And, of course, one needs to ask, "when will Trump Bring his manufacturing jobs back to the good old USA?
People who think the minimum wage is all about lazy people flipping burgers fail to realize that all wages ultimately derive from the minimum. It’s the baseline from which all higher wages are determined.
If the minimum wage goes down, other jobs that pay higher wages will likely pay less, as well.
We’ll call it “Trickle-up Poverty.”
Quid. Pro. Quo.
Indeed, this is how the scam works: you get immediate dividends and think, “Hey, this was a good deal!”
Then the checks stop coming in. And phone calls go unanswered.
I cannot wait to hear Mr. Stacey Keach’s voice as he narrates this particular episode of “American Greed.”
How may Indiana employers, and US wide, are thinking…this is a sweet way to get money and tax breaks. All they have to do is announce, we’re moving some/all operations/jobs to Mexico. It will be like opening the floodgates.
So basically 'heartland Americans" love socialism - they just don’t like the word.
I found this in a story at NYT about our working class hero and saving jobs with his magic wand.
Roughly 10 percent of United Technologies’ $56 billion in revenue comes from the federal government; the Pentagon is its single largest customer. With $4 billion in profit last year, the company has the flexibility to find the savings elsewhere.
Members of Congress have been pressing to punish big military contractors if they move jobs outside the United States.
Many industrial companies face intense pressure from Wall Street to increase profits, even when the economy grows slowly — a major reason United Technologies decided to move. That won’t change after T takes office — especially when hourly pay in the Indianapolis plant is equivalent to what workers in Mexico make in a day.
And of course this plan was already underway by the local government, not by Trump. And it’s a pretty pathetic deal to begin with. People’s standards really are low.
I remember reading that. I try to read the Washington Post instead of the NYT. The NYT broke the Clinton email story March 2015, and to date has over 200 articles insinuating wrongdoing. Yet not one saying it’s all minor stuff not worthy of one headline. In July they wrongfully reported a criminal investigation being opened and botched the correction. Fuck the NYT.
Yes: " As such, Carrier is now saying it still plans to eliminate 1,100 jobs. That’s a big lump of coal for those families. And these deals are nearly impossible to enforce, so Carrier can easily continue to send more jobs to Mexico down the road when the cameras are no longer trained on the company." from Raw Story
Few questions come to me:
- How can IN give handouts to a company without being voted on
- Isn’t this Government telling business what do to? Seems like Communism to me, and DEFINITELY would have been called that under Obama.
- How did Trump do this? The people of IN are taking the hit.
Nice flag to wave around I guess though “I saved jobs before i was even president” will come during his thank you tour.
I’d really love to know if this is even a real story? The company bitches about not getting enough ‘stimulus’ money from the state back in February that was home to a presidential candidate at the time and now the Vice-President Elect. Carrier says they’re picking up their toys to play at the neighbors, then as suddenly as the inmates take over the asylum, all those long-laid business plans to relocate a 1,000 workers elsewhere get changed.
Its better than a campaign donation and probably easier for Pence to engineer.
So the party that ostensibly believes in free market capitalism and decries government interference in business is now applauding its president-elect-in-waiting for directly interfering in the business of a private company. The hypocrisy of the GOP knows no bounds.
it wont matter when hes on tour, the fans will eat it up as gospel
I didn’t post this story so I could a get a fuck the NYT in response, just trying to add to the conversation.
